Meet Kinga Angelys

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kinga Angelys. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kinga, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Eliminating any expectation that life is supposed to be easy has really helped endure hardship and embrace challenges that are beyond my control. We have the power to choose to bounce back or fall apart and there is always a lesson to be learned if one looks closely enough. Making music has personally been a powerful and positive force for building resilience and for the listener, the right song can lift us when we are at our lowest. When I write a song, I dive deeper into the joyful and painful experiences that are somewhat unresolved in my heart and give them a voice. And when something bad happens instead of burying feelings, songwriting allows me to unpack the difficult emotions and feel the anger, grief and pain while channeling it artistically – creating something empowering and enduring from the chaos. The lyrics, music, album art and even the promotion all play a role in honouring the experience. And releasing those songs is a way of reaching out to those who may be navigating something similar and hopefully being a source of support. I first truly felt this with my original song “Hurricane” which is all about reclaiming your power. I was surprised by how many people resonated with it or shared stories about listening to it before going into surgery or while losing a relative to illness. So to me, my resilience comes from fully feeling emotions, facing and embracing challenges, harnessing hardship creatively and forging connections with others over shared experiences. There is no time to waste when we can make every day meaningful by mastering the difficult moments and creating something special.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Kinga Angelys is a Canadian Music Artist based in Germany who is passionate about music with a message. Prior to releasing original music, she spent many years working in Recreation Therapy and musical entertainment in hospitals and nursing homes working with patients and people with disabilities and dementia to enhance quality of life through music and recreational activities. Listening to the stories of people living with and recovering from illness or injury and the challenges they overcame sparked her heart. She discovered the power of music to alleviate loneliness, foster meaningful discussions, stimulate memories and create deep connections and community. This was the cornerstone to her creative journey and commitment to staying bold and bright.

Kinga continued to perform and decided to turn stories into her own songs with her first release in 2019. Cultivating courage, hope and happinesss are at the core of her artistry and vividly brought to life in her music. With songs like “Good Things Are Coming”, “Still Standing”, “Running on Empty” and “Hurricane”, Kinga motivates listeners to overcome challenges and embrace their vulnerability, purpose and unique journey. Kinga is currently working on a new EP which is an honest reflection of her own and listeners experiences while continuing to energize, empower, and strengthen the human spirit.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Know your “why”. Identifying what is deeply meaningful to you allows you to claim your truth, confidently give your 100% and create with passion and purpose.

2. Don’t be afraid to shine, but stay humble. As an artist and performer you need to put yourself out there but don’t be afraid to stay authentic and relatable. Find a way to make it less about you and focus on what you can offer to others, how you make them feel and how you can be of service to them with your talents and skills.

3. Tap into your tenacity. I’ve seen talented people give up too early when they could have made a difference. The music industry can be discouraging but if you are patient and persistent, you can change the game without letting it change you. Choose consistency over perfection, show yourself some compassion and keep believing in yourself – it can be the start of a beautiful journey.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My husband has always encouraged me to march to the beat of my own drum. I cherish that because I strongly feel that when we are seen, valued and appreciated for who we are we can truly thrive. If I do get discouraged, he guides me back to myself and helps me see past my perceived limitations and break those barriers. Surrounding yourself with supportive people who want more for you instead of more from you can be very grounding and also leads us towards more growth and confidence in what we do. This gift has inspired me to be that kind of person for others.
