We were lucky to catch up with KingDarius TheGreat recently and have shared our conversation below.
KingDarius , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed both confidence and self-esteem once I embraced the concept and understanding of Self Love. All too often, it’s easy to fall victim to what society says one should look like, how one should dress, and what they can or cannot do based on their environment coming up. I learned over the years that I will refrain from letting others opinions of me define whom I truly am and what I see for myself. Thanks to this thought process, my confidence and self-esteem are enormously strong.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am KingDarius TheGreat. A musician in the music industry. As an artist, I am primarily in the rap genre, and as a writer I write for all genres of music. I think the most exciting part of what I do is watching a song I created go from an idea, to an actual song, to watching it being promoted and marketed properly, to then seeing the song become popular within the targeted audience. It’s truly a mesmerizing process. Self Love (Re-Up) is my most current single featuring R&B singer Hayzell B. This record went through the process I just eluded to and then some, to say the least, but each and every step was vital and necessary for the song to be successful. Right now, I am continuing to campaign and promote this song by doing some light touring at different festivals, as well as preparing for an extravagant video highlighting the songs’ purpose and message of exhibiting Self Love.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the three that were most impactful in my journey are one, having patience. Patience is definitely a virtue in this business because everything doesn’t go as planned, but that doesn’t always mean it’s a bad thing. Altered plans of action can actually lead to a better product, and my current single Self Love (Re-Up) featuring the wonderfully magnificent Hayzell B is proof of that. Another important dynamic is my ability to research. Over the years I’ve dug deep into finding out who I am truly, along with uncovering other history that wasn’t highlighted in any school curriculum. Researching really gave me a lot to talk about content wise when it comes to my material. It is truly one of the main qualities that separate me from other artists in my respective genre. Lastly but definitely not least, I’d say my dedication is definitely something that has gotten me to the respectable level I’ve been able to obtain. This industry is extremely demanding, and the average person honestly isn’t usually built mentally to withstand the hurdles that come with this journey. It definitely takes a high level of dedication to push through the trying times so that you can enjoy the great experiences on the other side of the obstacle course known as the music industry.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I think the most impactful thing my mom did for me was leading the way on the journey of research. There was a time where I thought everything I was told in certain facilities was the only way to think. Thanks to my mother’s persistence to uncover other things that weren’t necessarily a mainstream point of view regardless of the pushback she received from myself and others, it ultimately cleared my eyes and opened my third eye to some pretty cool history and knowledge I would’ve never obtained in this lifetime had it not been for her. This resulted in me doing even more research of my own on endless amounts of topics and it makes for extraordinary content when creating songs of meaningful substance.
