Meet Kira Lynn

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kira Lynn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kira, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I grew up with very ambitious parents. My mom is a visual artist and just recently opened up her own art gallery, and then my dad has owned his own law firm for many years. They have taught me to always go after what I want and to not give up.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I moved from Canada several years ago to pursue my artist career as a singer/songwriter. Along the way, I started to develop a business plan on opening a cereal bar. I always talked about it to all my friends, and thought it would be so cool to own my own business. Then I met a couple by the names of Steve and Alane Kovach. At the time, they were opening up a restaurant on 12th south called Emery, and they had a house attached to it. I pitched my idea, and they took a leap of faith in partnering up with me, the rest is history!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think being patient and open to what comes up is useful in this business where there is so much uncertainty. My people skills and being able to communicate to customers has helped as well. Lastly, being able to organize my time and others efficiently, especially when I am planning out other employees schedules. It’s good to know when to staff up when we are most busy and cut when we are in our slower hours/times. I say it’s key to work on your weaknesses and take advantage of your strengths. Be okay to ask others for help where you need it.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Right now we are in our slower months at the store. So it has been challenging to make rent, payroll. inventory, etc. It’s often hard to predict the busy times and slower times being such a new business. Good news is I think we are starting to finally see some trends so we can prepare better for next year.
