We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kirani Ayat a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kirani, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I was raised mostly by my grandmother, and although she didn’t have much she always shared the little she had with people less fortunate than us. She’s a devout Muslim and believes in zakat which is the act of giving alms to the needy. As I got older, I realized I felt the need to care for and support others, friends, relatives, fans, strangers it didn’t matter. Whenever I could I did. All thanks to my grandma.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I get the most fulfillment when I create, making music, and arts came later on in my life, you might say I’m a late bloomer in that regards. Initially I wanted to be a professional football player but life has a way of changing things. I started making music because of a dare, and realized I had the gift, so I made the decision to make it a career. It’s been a fun experience so far. My music is a blend of my Hausa heritage with my foreign influences, most people call it Afro fusion. I often talk about societal Issues, faith, love, and world events.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Tell your authentic stories, people seek connections so when you open your self up and speak your truth it has a way of attracting people to you that can relate.
Persevere and don’t stop doing the things that make you happy, positively that it.
Seek knowledge always and never stop asking questions.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m open to free thinkers and creators. I want to work with people who want to make the world a better safer place for all.
