Meet Kissa Webb

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kissa Webb. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kissa , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome can be quite daunting, but as a 38-year-old maternity photographer living in Atlanta, Georgia, and a proud graduate of the illustrious Clark Atlanta University, I know that I have the strength to conquer it. I remind myself of our motto, “find a way or make one,” and realize that success doesn’t mean never feeling doubt or fear, but rather persisting in spite of those emotions. I’ve learned that seeking help and support from my loved ones, friends, and mentors is essential. Shout out to Tomayia Colvin Education for pushing me in the direction I needed. Their guidance and encouragement fuel my determination. Every step I take brings me closer to my goals, and each accomplishment reinforces my true worth. I embrace the journey, celebrate my progress (most times), and trust that my talent and will propel me to keep taking the steps I need to achieve the smallest of goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hello, lovely readers! I’m Raekissa Webb, a Black female maternity photographer based in metro Atlanta. Through my business, August Rae Photography, I have the incredible privilege of helping expecting moms feel beautiful, loved, confident, and encouraged. With a decade of photography experience under my belt, I found my true calling in capturing the joy of pregnancy about two years ago, and I absolutely love it! My goal extends beyond simply taking stunning images; I strive to provide an uplifting and transformative client experience. When you step in front of my lens, expect a nurturing environment where I’ll celebrate your journey into motherhood by capturing the tender moments, the glow, and the love shared between you and your growing baby bump. It’s my passion to make you feel seen, valued, and empowered, and I’m dedicated to creating memories that will be cherished for generations. So, if you’re an expectant mother in Atlanta, I invite you to visit my website at augustrae.com and let me capture the magic of your unique story—one frame at a time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, there are three qualities that I believe have had the most significant impact on my path as a maternity photographer. Firstly, empathy has been instrumental in connecting with my clients on a deeper level, understanding their emotions, and creating a safe and supportive space. By genuinely putting myself in their shoes, I can better capture the essence of their joy and anticipation. My advice to those starting out is to cultivate empathy by actively listening, seeking to understand others’ experiences, and developing a genuine interest in their stories.

Secondly, continuous learning and improvement have been crucial in refining my craft. Photography is a dynamic field, and staying updated is essential for growth. Embrace every opportunity to expand your knowledge through workshops, online courses, and networking with fellow photographers. Don’t be afraid to experiment, take risks, and push yourself creatively. MAKE SURE TO APPLY WHAT YOU LEARN! If you don’t take the time out to apply your knowledge then what’s the point?

Lastly, building a strong brand and cultivating a remarkable client experience have been game-changers for my business. Establishing a clear brand identity that aligns with your values and resonates with your target audience is essential. After years of doing it myself, I finally got someone to help with my brand: that was everything from fonts, to colors, logo design, and my website. Additionally, prioritize exceptional client service, going above and beyond to exceed expectations. Respond promptly, listen attentively to their needs, and personalize their experience whenever possible. Happy clients become your best ambassadors.

To those starting their journey, I encourage you to focus on developing these qualities: empathy, a thirst for learning, and building a strong brand and client experience. Embrace them as integral parts of your growth and development. So be patient and persistent. Trust in your passion, believe in yourself, and keep honing your skills.
