Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kita Fatale . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kita, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Being the only one in the room that sets me apart is my client interaction and how I relate to them. By talking to them, walking them through my process of piercing and showing them what I do, it helps ease the anticipation quite a bit. The anticipation and anxiety of a new piercing is always the worst part of the whole process for most so if I can get them to relax then I’ve done the hardest part of my job and all we have left to do is the piercing itself!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a body modification artist specializing in all piercings! I have been professionally stabbing people with pretty jewelry for 6 years now and it’s absolutely my passion, I never feel like I’m working because I love what I do. I think body modification is a way of self expression and therapy in a way. Im honored that people come to see me to help define who they are by getting that piercing they have been wanting to set themselves apart from others. Im also honored that people come to see me to release that built up energy they have by getting a new piercing not to define themselves but to work through something deeper, to feel alive or just the ultimate satisfaction that they can do something they are scared of. People get piercings for their own reasons and to hear their stories is always interesting in itself. I am educated in all the piercings from basic and specialty to dermals and genitals so every story is uniquely differently and being apart of someone’s journey, growth, self expression and just life in general is gratifying and exciting.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think becoming a piercer in general takes a special kind of person. First and foremost when starting out as an apprentice and baby piercer you have to work through a lot of mental stuff from hurting people to literally stabbing people willingly which comes with its own nerves and anxieties that only you can push yourself to work through. Remembering everything such as anatomy, jewelry size, when to pierce, when not to pierce, what is this bump, is this an infection can be really overwhelming specially when you are trying to be the best you can be for not only you but your clients. Let’s face it anyone can pierce but it takes hard work, passion, empathy, sympathy and knowledge to be a highly rated piercer that people want to come see. You don’t want to get stabbed by someone who has no clue what they are doing and really just wants money in their pocket because they don’t care about the client or the outcome of what they are doing to them, no one wants to be damaged or have a crooked poorly placed piercing. Yeah piercings are semi permanent but it could be a very traumatic experience if not done with proper training, licensing, knowledge, effort and care. Everyone’s anatomy is different, everyone’s feelings and opinions are different so to treat your clients individually as the humans they are and help them execute a beautiful piercing they are envisioning has the most impact all the way around.
How would you describe your ideal client?
All my clients are ideal and all the characters I have worked with and will work with in the future have made my career and my journey in piercing unique and special to me. I have pierced children, nurses, doctors, stay at home moms/dads, scientists, teachers, customer service representatives, sex workers, ceo’s, business owners, you name it ive pierced them and every single one of them made me the highly rated, professional, passionate piercer I am today and without all of my clients in every form, my career wouldn’t mean as much to me as it does and I wouldn’t have the experience I habe today.
