We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kitty Noir. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kitty below.
Kitty, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My fans always tell me that I give off good vibes, good energy, and an optimistic spirit. Obtaining a positive mindset wasn’t easy. I had a really rough childhood. 18 years of physical abuse, sexual traumas, bullying, and substance abuse made me the resilient person I am. I’m open about my trauma. I love to connect with fans on a deeper level, letting them know that they are not alone through whatever life brings their way. Another source of my resilience is my faith. Whatever comes my way is part of God’s will and I know that He will never lead me in the wrong direction. Growing up in an all-white private school, I was constantly doubting God and even proclaimed myself atheist because I kept encountering adversity after adversity and nothing seemed to get better. When I got sober, I found my faith. Now I know that I can overcome anything life throws at me.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I always had a dream to be a musician. Growing up, I started a band with the kids next door. I loved writing songs and playing flute in the school band. When I was around 12 years old, I started writing music as a form of release. It became therapeutic, and it was a safe outlet for me to release my feelings. As a young adult, I still use music as my journal, writing things out, recording songs at my home studio, and then listening to them. Music is art. It’s therapy. It’s a release. It’s my passion.
Right now I’m currently on tour in Los Angeles County, and setting up an Orange County tour. I love performing at new venues, meeting new fans, spreading good vibes, and entertaining a crowd. I have two significant shows coming up, one at The Viper Room on April 12th, and another with SK8 at The Whisky A Go Go on July 7th!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Stay true to yourself. This was crucial to my journey as a musician, and I had to learn this the hard way. Be YOU. Don’t change for anybody. Find people that accept you for you. Definitely know how to communicate confidently. It took me a long time to come out of my shell. Know what you want as a musician, and know where you want to be. Learn how to engineer, it will save you a lot of money. Invest in a home studio. Most importantly, invest in yourself.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth is definitely my career. This year I’m on tour. The little girl inside me is screaming with joy, that I’m living out her childhood dream. My Spotify numbers are getting bigger by the day. I’m seeing a huge growth in my Orange County fanbase, and now expanding my fanbase to Los Angeles. I’m so proud of myself, I used to doubt myself over the simplest of things.
