Meet Knadijah Hickman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Knadijah Hickman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Knadijah below.

Knadijah, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience is deeply rooted in my past. I can truly say that without the challenges I faced, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I didn’t grow up with the typical mother-father dynamic in one household. I never knew my father, and my mother was not able to take care of me at the time. Thankfully, my grandmother raised me in the projects of Dallas, TX, specifically in Pleasant Grove. We had little to nothing, but she made it work with what she had.

My grandmother played a huge role in my resilience. She was, and still is, like a mother to me. She poured into me. She taught me to be straightforward and honest, because she never took anything from anyone, but she was so kind hearted— this is the type of courage I carry with me to this day.

But the true foundation of my resilience comes from my godmother. When I was around 14 or 15, my grandfather became sick, and my grandmother had to shift her focus. During this difficult time, we started attending a local church, and that’s where I met Sister Madeline Fisher. She saw me in my time of need and took me in, treating me like her own daughter. She gave me the support and love I was missing, and I owe so much of who I am to her.

Madeline J. Fisher introduced me to my passion for social media and showed me that I could build something of my own. She runs a successful cleaning business, Virtuous Touch Cleaning, and watching her work and grind taught me what it takes to be a business owner. She brought me closer to God and showed me that, despite my hardships, I had the strength to create a better life.

My past, though dark at times, shaped my resilience. It taught me how to overcome, how to work hard, and how to believe in myself. Without those experiences, I wouldn’t be the strong businesswoman I am today. Now, I can see the light in my story, and I’m grateful for the journey that made me who I am.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Tailored Socials is my social media management agency, where I help brands, businesses, and creators grow through content marketing, content creation, and, most importantly, strategy. I’ve been in business for two years, but I’ve been active on social media for over ten years. Tailored Socials is my baby — I absolutely love what I do!

I remember being 14 or 15 years old, playing on my godmother’s laptop, creating presentations, and dressing my godsister like a model. I’d direct her in videos and photoshoots — I still have some of those videos to this day! That part of my life shaped my creativity and became an outlet for what I was going through as a child. It led me to create several YouTube channels, growing them to over 7.5K subscribers, and falling in love with the process of building a community online.

YouTube was my first platform where I discovered my passion for social media. Growing several channels showed me that I could succeed at anything I set my mind to, which motivated me to explore and master other platforms. This curiosity sparked my interest in marketing as a whole, leading me to attend Tyler Junior College, where I went for my associate degree in Business.

Looking back, I never thought this could be a career, let alone that I would start a business doing something I’ve always loved! This journey also deepened my passion for photography and videography, which is honestly my favorite part of what I do. I love helping my clients bring their visions to life. When you can envision something and then see it come to reality, that’s the most fulfilling part of my career.

One of my most popular services is my content shoot package for busy clients who are focused on running their businesses. Here’s how it works:
• My clients dedicate one day a month for a content shoot, where I come out and we create a month’s worth of content.
• I also offer travel services for shoots outside my local area.
• After the shoot, my team takes over — editing the content, writing captions, and preparing everything for my clients to approve.
• Once approved, the content is scheduled to upload across all platforms my clients have chosen.
• This system allows my clients to sit back and focus on what really matters: growing and scaling their business.

In addition to content creation, I offer comprehensive content planning services designed to take the guesswork out of what to post and when. I understand that for many business owners and creators, coming up with fresh ideas, filming content, and staying consistent can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re already juggling the demands of running your business. That’s where I come in!
• I create a customized content calendar tailored to your brand’s goals, audience, and niche.
• Each month, I deliver a clear, actionable plan that outlines what to post, which platforms to target, and the best times to post for maximum engagement.
• The calendar includes content prompts, creative ideas, trending audio suggestions, and even captions — so you’re never stuck wondering what to film or post next.
• For my content shoot clients, this plan ensures we capture everything you need in just one day, so you have a cohesive and consistent online presence without the stress of creating content on the fly.

This service is a game-changer for busy entrepreneurs and creators who want to stay visible and grow their audience, but simply don’t have the time to constantly brainstorm, film, and post. By letting me handle the content strategy and execution, my clients can focus on what they do best — running and scaling their businesses — while knowing their social media is working for them behind the scenes.

I’ve worked with speech therapists, realtors, financial advisors, motivational speakers, content creators, and more! I specialize in:
• Instagram (growth strategy, content creation, and engagement).
• Kajabi (for online courses).
• Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube management.

I know how to grow a business online through social media marketing, and my ultimate goal is to make Tailored Socials a one-stop shop for business owners looking to start, grow, or scale their company. Whether you need content creation, marketing strategy, ad management, or community building, I want to be the only agency you’ll ever need.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I believe there are several essential qualities you need to start a social media marketing agency — or any business, honestly. Let me break it down!
1. Confidence and Belief in Yourself:
The first and most important quality is having a great personality and aura about yourself. People believe in you because you believe in yourself. You have to carry that 1000% confidence that you are great at your craft and that you can help people reach their goals and organize their business — especially as a social media manager! A big part of what I do is helping people talk through their goals and ideas and aligning them with their brand and business. But confidence isn’t just about believing; it’s about producing results and showing your clients that you can deliver.
2. Integrity and Realism:
The reality is, there are many social media managers out there selling dreams — promising people instant success or that all their goals will come true overnight. But that’s far from the truth. Building a successful brand, even on social media, takes time and consistent effort. Going viral isn’t what creates long-term, loyal clients; showing up consistently does. As a business owner, you have to be honest with yourself and your clients. You’re offering a journey, not a quick fix — and that kind of integrity builds trust and longevity.
3. A Growth Mindset and Action:
Starting a business requires learning, growing, and taking action — over and over again. You will always be your first client. Start by growing your own brand, developing a strategy that works for you, and gaining real-world experience. Work with a friend, get testimonials, and build a portfolio. There are so many free resources out there — YouTube, Coursera, and other online platforms — that teach marketing techniques and strategies if you don’t have the time or resources to go back to school. The key is to know what you’re talking about and to actually apply it.

The hardest part for most people is just getting started. They think they’re not good enough, or their work isn’t great — but everyone starts at level one. You can’t compare your level one to someone’s level twenty. So just start! If you have the confidence to believe in your talents, the knowledge to produce results, and the drive to take action, there’s no way you won’t succeed.

The Bottom Line is If you’re early in your journey — whether as a business owner or a content creator — you will stumble, fall, gain clients, lose them, and then get back up, try again, and grow stronger. That’s the reality.

Nothing in this world is straightforward; there will always be twists and turns. The question is: Are you ready for them all? Once you accept that everything is a lesson, not an inconvenience, you’ll find that the entrepreneurial journey — with all its highs and lows — becomes the most rewarding thing you’ll ever do.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed with their business and needs help creating structure. They have no idea where to start when it comes to marketing on social media, and they’re ready to take that next step. I work best with people who are serious about truly growing their brand and building a loyal community — one that will follow them through every business venture. That’s one of the biggest things I ask from my potential clients: a genuine commitment to growth.

My ideal client is:
• A small business owner who’s ready to get their brand online, make their first sale, and consistently attract new customers.
• A content creator who wants to grow their platform, secure their first brand deal, and create a strategy that builds both visibility and income.
• A busy entrepreneur who knows their business has potential but doesn’t have the time to create, plan, and execute a strong social media strategy.
• A creative visionary who has ideas but needs help organizing and bringing them to life — from content creation to monthly content planning and social media management.

I absolutely love what I do, and my clients are a huge part of why I do it. The excitement of seeing their growth, hearing about their first sale, or celebrating their first client or brand deal — that’s what drives me every day.
