Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kobe Morrison. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kobe, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
My creativity comes from 3 things. The first thing it comes from is inspiration. I love to watch, listen, and observe creativity & everyday experiences whether that’d be from watching movies and TV shows, listening to music, or spending time with people I love. The second thing it comes from is asking “What if?” I use this method to bounce off of my thoughts and expand on them. Seeing what the concept could be, or what the story behind it is. Asking how would it be if I were to make this into something creative and further my imagination. The third thing that fuels my creativity is my passion. As long as I love what I’m creating, I’m gonna put my best foot forward to make my vision come to life. Which especially helps when the project I’m working on becomes difficult. My passion and faith will drive me to complete it.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m an independent music artist, actor, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. So far I’ve released two singles titled “Halloween Night” and “I Got Bands”, available on all music streaming platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, YouTube Music and etc. I’m currently working on brand new music that’ll hopefully be released sometime in the fall. So keep an eye out and follow me on my socials to see when that’s happening! I’m also a puppeteer and own a brand titled TCG Puppets: Comedy & Entertainment, specializing in making comedic & musical content for kids, teens, and families to enjoy. My most recent independent film TCG Puppets: Halloween Spooktacular has won two Honorable Mention Awards for “Best Children’s Short” and “Best Original Song” in the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival and the Indie-X Film Fest. Which is available to watch on YouTube and on my brand-new website, tcgpuppets.com, where you can also support me by buying merch. What sets me apart from other artists is that I have my hand in every aspect of what I do. I write, compose, direct, choreograph, art design, edit, and more! I do this not only because I’m passionate about all these things but because I’m still an up-and-coming creator and performer, so I don’t have an entire team with me. I try to get help from others when I can, but for right now, it’s mostly me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My ambition is one of my qualities that I believe has gotten me this far. I always try to shoot for the moon! Believing in yourself is another one. As a puppeteer, half the time I’d get teased for my interest in it when I was in high school. But as I continued to pursue it, grew as a performer, expanded my brand, and gained new opportunities, I realized that staying true to myself even when others didn’t fully understand was very important. Lastly, the willingness to learn is also a good quality. There’s always room for improvement, so it’s definitely great to own your talent and be satisfied with how good you are, but having a willingness to learn more and grow is how you don’t stay stagnant. A quote that stuck with me recently is “Practice makes progress, not perfect”.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes! As far as my music, I’m looking for fellow singers to sing with! I’m currently working on new music so I would love to have a couple of features on my upcoming EPs. Or even to feature on anything they’re working on as well. I expand to lots of different genres but I would say I’m mainly Urban Pop and R&B, but I’m pretty much limitless. Plus I would love to get in contact with anyone who would like to play my music on the radio or feature it in any way shape or form so it can get recognized more.
As far as my brand, TCG Puppets, I’m searching for comedians and also just fun online creators and media outlets to collaborate with. You could be a dancer, singer, comedian, fellow puppeteer, tv station, whatever! I’m just looking for awesome collaborators to expand mutual audiences!
