Meet Kofi Douhadji

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kofi Douhadji. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kofi below.

Kofi, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Discovering my purpose was a journey, marked not by a straight path, but by trials, errors, and enlightening realizations. I learned that purpose is not a given; it’s a mosaic of self-knowledge, personal values, and aspirations.

This journey taught me an invaluable lesson: knowing oneself isn’t inherent. It’s an art crafted through experiences. Embracing this, I gave myself permission to explore various avenues, keenly observing how each aligned with my inner values and societal contributions.

Purpose, I realized, is akin to a destination – one that guides but doesn’t dictate the journey. It’s like navigating to a place where the mode of transport might change based on new insights and circumstances. Whether it’s a car, a plane, a boat, or a blend of these, the journey adapts.

In pursuit of my destination, I explored diverse paths: delving into a music career, venturing into civil engineering, aspiring to be a pilot, and even launching a sporting goods company. Each endeavor was a vital leg of my journey, teaching me about failure, resilience, and the joy of discovery.

These experiences solidified my purpose: to actively contribute to a community, inspiring every individual to set lofty goals and empowering them with the courage to achieve them. Today, this mission takes shape through my writing, and my publishing consulting practice where I empower and guide aspiring authors to excel in their writing and publish messages and ideas that matter.

Every step, every detour, brought me closer to understanding that our true calling lies in the impact we make on others, and how we inspire them to realize their own potential.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
From the humble village of Afagnan in Togo to the bustling streets of El Paso, Texas, my journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. It all began with a dream to fly on an airplane and experience worlds I discovered through books. Books were the gateway that opened my eyes to the vastness of the world beyond my village. This discovery ignited a deep yearning within me – a desire to dream bigger, to reach further.

I held a vision close to my heart: to one day set foot in the United States and carve out my own destiny. Years of determination and perseverance led me to that very dream. Arriving in the U.S. with no knowledge of English, I embarked on a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. I started my own business, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, became an Officer, and delved deeply into the quest for my life’s purpose.

This pursuit led to the birth of Flying Wings, a haven for self-published authors seeking top-tier solutions to bring their literary visions to life. In a beautiful twist of fate, my path has come full circle, back to the world of books that first inspired me.

My debut book, ‘Unbroken Optimist,’ has touched the hearts of thousands worldwide, paving the way for a flourishing writing career. The anticipation builds for my upcoming book, ‘Tiny Sparks,’ set to launch on May 23, 2024. It’s a journey I am excited to share with you.

I invite you to join me on LinkedIn, where I actively engage with a vibrant community of readers, writers, and dreamers. Together, let’s explore the power of stories and the endless possibilities they hold.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Gratitude, optimism, and resilience have been the cornerstones of my journey, serving as an inexhaustible source of strength and inspiration. These three qualities have not only shaped my path but continue to play a pivotal role in my life.

Gratitude is the key that unlocks the ability to appreciate life’s blessings, big and small. It’s about recognizing and valuing what we have, even in the midst of challenges. Optimism, on the other hand, empowers us to envision greater possibilities, to see potential blessings in every situation. And resilience? It’s the steadfast companion that enables us to weather the storms, to navigate the rough and uncertain terrains of our journey with courage and determination.

I firmly believe these qualities are essential for anyone aspiring to achieve something meaningful and leave a lasting legacy. While the extent of these traits may vary among individuals, the good news is that they can be nurtured and strengthened. One way to do this is through the wisdom found in books. Marcus Aurelius’ ‘Meditations’ is a classic example, offering timeless insights on these virtues. Additionally, my own book, ‘Unbroken Optimist,’ delves into these themes, sharing my personal experiences and learnings around cultivating gratitude, optimism, and resilience.

These are not just qualities; they are tools for life, accessible and invaluable to all who seek to harness their power.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Emmet Fox’s ‘Power Through Constructive Thinking’ profoundly opened my eyes to the power of thoughts in shaping a purpose-driven life. Gifted to me in 2006, it’s been a constant companion. Its core message: “All power lies in creative thought. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he,” is transformative. Highly recommended for those yet to read it, and worth revisiting for those who have.
