We recently connected with Koku Gonza and have shared our conversation below.
Koku , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is motivated by my personal goals. I set a goal and I create steps to reach that goal. Sometimes I have to make adjustments to the plan, however the outcome is still amazing.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have three passions in life, Music, Yoga, and Natural Beauty care. My first love is music. I’ve been a professional musician for 10 years. I have traveled to Europe, Asia and Africa for performances. I started from childhood and continued with as a profession. I am currently sponsored by D’Angelico Guitar and Traveler Guitar. I recently released a new single Utamu. Utamu means “sweetness” in Kiswahili. Utamu was recorded in Accra Ghana and Brooklyn New York, however, it was inspired by love in Tanzania. I worked with artist in Ghana to create a West African High Life sound to blend with an East African soul style. My song is available on all music platforms. My beauty brand focuses on natural hair and skin care products. I create all of my products by hand. I resource all of the ingredients from Zanzibar Tanzania. Yoga is a healthy lifestyle choice I thrive in as a yogi and instructor. I started practicing in 2012! So its been a very long time for me. I developed my practice to initially rid myself of back pain…..years later, I became a registered yoga instructor.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Commitment to self-always keep your word to yourself Consistency with goals-write out the vision and create a plan
Understanding who I am-know what you want
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My renewed belief in spirituality and love.
