Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Koluna (Band from Martinsburg, WV). We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Koluna, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
We try to look at every day as a new day and new opportunity. We know we have a lot of work to still do and very much look forward to accomplishing a lot of short-term goals we set for ourselves which in turns helps push us more and more forward.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
We play heavy metal. You could probably describe it as a few different sub-categories such as progressive, groove, djent, and core. We like to have imagery that reflects the lyrical content and tone conveyed by the music. Our second EP is set to release in March of 2024 titled, “Obelisk.”
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Patience, keeping a positive approach, and professionalism with a large amount of fun thrown in.
Our group clicks very well. We keep as much of an upbeat demeanor as we can, while understanding that we have a job to do. People pay good money to come have a good time, so it is important to keep that in mind, while having fun up on stage.
As far as patience, I feel that was forced on us by having to wait out the pandemic. We learned that things will take time and happen when they happen.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Well, with the amount of time it took for us to get our second full release out, we are immediately gearing up to go back to studio. There is a lot of prep work that goes into being ready to do that. Lots of edits, questions about the smallest of things such as a placement of a particular note, learning/teaching the songs, lyric writing, etc. So much goes into just working on small pieces that it can wear you down before you even get to the actual recording sessions.
We look forward to getting new material going soon!
