Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Korey Bromery. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Korey, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
So growing up I spent a ton of time on my grandparents farm in rural Iron Station, NC. I spent pretty much every weekday during the summers in a hay field helping my grandfather cut, bail, and load hay bails. It was long, physical work and I did this throughout my childhood and into high school. During the school years, I would wake up every morning at 4:30 am to feed the horses on our farm and would also do the same after I came home from school. My mother worked a ton, owning her own nail salon and multiple business throughout the years. I would also spend a lot of time at her work and saw how much she put into her product.
Throughout high school, I played football and participated heavily in our JROTC program. I had a small friend group and thus this allowed me to focus on school. I knew from a very young age, I wanted to join the military and in 2006, I joined the USMC. This is really where my development of my work ethic kicked off. I put in leadership roles at a very young age (20) and was in charge of other Marines lives in Iraq at 21. Failure wasnt an option at that point. Throughout my time in USMC, I continued to strive for excellence. I developed this habit of doing things (education, fitness, etc) that would set me up for the future.
After leaving the USMC, I enrolled in college, and used my work ethic to finish my degree while opening and running my Crossfit gym, as well as enlisting in the South Carolina Army National Guard.
All in all, my childhood and time in the military have helped me become a successful buisness owner, husband, father, and human.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My entire life has been focused around family. My grandparents gave me an awesome structure to emulate and I continue with that today. As a professional, I focus on the people on whom I serve and giving them the best experience of their day. Crossfit Humidity is special because it was built around the community of Crossfit and our athletes. My wife and I created this place because of our love of Crossfit but mainly the people in our gym. We literally are one big family. If an individual takes the financial leap to pay us for a service, I want to provide them the best possible service I can. At the same , I want Crossfit Humidity to be a safe space for them. I want my athletes to walk through the door everyday knowing that they will not be judged on their current status and will be welcomed with open arms.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are work ethic, professionalism, and respect. The only advice I can give people to develop these qualities is knowing that the journey is going to be hard but if you put your mind to knowing that the future will get better, than it will keep you going.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
I would say my biggest growth in the past 12 months is developing an even better balance in life. I have found a way to successfully run my business, be successful in my military career, be successful in my fitness career, all while being successful as a husband and father.
