Meet Kori Steadman

We recently connected with Kori Steadman and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Kori with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

Growing up, I was very fortunate to have both of my parents lead by example. My dad served in the U.S Army for 25 years, and my mom always had a job or multiple jobs at once.

From a very young age, I remember the determination and all around drive both of my parents had to provide for myself and my 2 siblings. My parents made sure that we did not ever go without, and I am very grateful for how hard my parents worked and continue to do so years later.

My parents definitely set the tone of how important your work ethic should be – especially in running and operating my own business and becoming successful on my own.

From their example, I have learned to pay attention to the details, have patience for myself/others, and to be determined to make things happen for myself, while still maintaining an appropriate work/life balance.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Kori! I’ve grown up in Utah most of my life, besides a few short years I spent in Oklahoma – I am definitely a Utahn at heart, I look forward to raising my future family here with the love of my life.
I’ve always had an interest in art/drawing, and painting my own nails – my Highschool Counselor encouraged me to enroll into a Nail Technician Program during my Senior Year, combining my love for art with the beauty industry seemed like a no brainer for me at the age of 17, and to be honest, it still is almost 12 years later.
I graduated Highschool as a Licensed Nail Technician, not fully sure of where I was going to work or do with my newfound skills, not feeling super confident, I only did nail services for my close friends or family for about 2 years before I began working at a local Salon.
I stayed at that Salon for about 2 years, as well, before deciding to go to another location. A few things ended up changing, so I started and ran my own business from my home for about 6 months before deciding that I missed being in a salon and I just loved the camaraderie of being in a space with other individuals who share the same goals and drive that I do.
I’ve been with my current Salon Family since Spring of 2019 – I started only working a couple of days a month as a Booth Rent Nail Technician, adding days, changing my schedule, switching products, working really hard, being promoted to the Nail Assistant Manager, becoming a Nail Technician Instructor, making my own Customized/Branded Merch, to finally being promoted to the Salon Manager as of last fall.
With the help and support from my boss, together we created an Apprenticeship Program, as well as a Mentorship Program for other Educators, that not only meets, but exceeds the Standard for Utah’s Nail Technician’s education, all in hopes that these individuals won’t feel like I did when I first started, and they can easily start/manage their own businesses and become successful in their new careers without the stress.
It has not always been easy, and there are still a ton of obstacles I face everyday, but I’m so happy about all of the different hats that I get to wear. I’m so thankful to finally have found my people, and I am so excited to see where else my Small Business will take me!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Patience
In the nail industry, patience is an essential virtue. Every client is unique, and each service requires time and care to achieve the desired outcome. Whether it’s perfecting a design or ensuring a flawless finish, patience allows me to deliver high-quality work consistently. It also helps in teaching and mentoring, as each student learns at their own pace.

Attention to Detail
Attention to detail is another crucial aspect of my work. From the delicate patterns on nails to the precise application of products, every small detail matters in creating a masterpiece. This quality extends to managing the salon and overseeing the training programs, ensuring that every aspect, from curriculum development to customer service, is meticulously handled.

By embracing these qualities, I’ve been able to cultivate an environment where creativity, growth, and confidence thrive, both for myself and for those I mentor.

Always remember that you are your own worst critic, each client that sits in your chair is just another chance to become better at what you do.

My Ideal Client
When describing my ideal client, several qualities stand out that make our interactions both enjoyable and productive. Here are the characteristics I value most in my clients:
Loyalty
A loyal client is someone who returns regularly and trusts me with their nail care needs. This loyalty is built on mutual respect and appreciation for the quality of services I provide. It also fosters a strong client-technician relationship, where both parties feel valued and understood.
Kindness
Kindness goes a long way in creating a positive salon experience. My ideal client is considerate and respectful, making every appointment a pleasant encounter. This kindness contributes to a warm and welcoming atmosphere, which is essential in a service-based industry.
Easy-Going Nature
An easy-going client is flexible and open to new ideas, whether it’s trying a new nail design or adjusting to unexpected schedule changes. This adaptability makes the service process smooth and enjoyable, allowing for creativity and collaboration.
Appreciation for My Work
Clients who value my expertise and creativity motivate me to continue delivering exceptional service. Their recognition of my skills and dedication boosts my confidence and reinforces the passion I have for my craft.
Interest in Growth
An ideal client is interested in their personal growth and investing in their self-care. They see the value in maintaining their nails, not just for aesthetic purposes, but as part of a broader commitment to self-improvement and well-being.
By surrounding myself with clients who embody these traits, I’ve been able to build a thriving business that not only meets but exceeds expectations, creating a community where both clients and technicians feel appreciated and empowered.
