We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Koriyan Beasley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Koriyan, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism comes from my perspective of life. I believe that life is good, that I will always be taken care of, and that even in the most difficult moments things are still working out for me. Some would explain this as the law of assumption, the theory that what you believe or assume to be true is what manifests. Why do I believe this? Because I believe that I am a good human. I believe I am a good human because I choose to honor my authenticity each day. I do what feels right to me, not what others or society believes or says we should. I don’t live with regret or resentment because in each decision I choose the one that makes me feel the best from a whole or omniscient perspective. I actively make the choice to believe in ‘better’. I believe that life externally reflects what is happening internally. My reality is a direct reflection of my well being and spiritual belief. One could also say that my optimism is a direct reflection of my faith and trust in myself and a higher power. I don’t believe in coincidences, but I somehow always experience them. In moments of hardship, things seem to work out or I receive support in a way I didn’t know I needed from unexpected places.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am Koriyan Beasley, The Kosmic Koach also known as Kosmic Ko. I am a metaphysical life coach, astrologer, and intuitive entrepreneur rooted in Memphis, TN. I find passion in and fulfill my purpose through assisting others with their discovery of self, spiritual healing, and foundation building. I enjoy being a resource of wisdom to help others understand and embody their destiny. I also serve as a catalyst for others by providing transformative healing and shadow work. My work can vary from divination readings, natal chart interpretations, fully customized spiritual lesson plans, goal setting meetings, ritual workshops, and more. Whether it’s one on one, in small groups, or publicly for the collective I enjoy creating experiences that spark revelation and bring resolution.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think customer service, brand identity, and teachability are qualities and skills that have been very impactful in my entrepreneurial journey. Before becoming an entrepreneur I had a background in Retail and Retail Management, I was able to bridge those skills into my own business, but customer service was especially important. As an entrepreneur, your entire business reputation is built upon the experience customers have with you, especially as a service provider. Everything won’t always go as planned and you will have difficulties happen, but how you handle both the positives and hardships with customers is extremely important. The way you communicate, treat, and value people is of importance, having customer service experience is necessary for a successful business.
Having a consistent, authentic brand identity is the ultimate goal. It is okay to pivot and change your brand as you learn and evolve, but you want to make sure you are doing so professionally and without haste. It’s easy to fall into the habit of wanting to change and improve things about your business, but constantly doing so without proper communication and planning can deter customers.
Lastly, teachability is one of the most important qualities I would recommend others to work on improving. Being receptive to learning from others is the easiest way to help propel you forward. Every good business owner learns from others whether it be teachers, coaches, peers, or even parents. Be confident, but be flexible, receptive, and teachable as well.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
This is such a dope question! I would like to say a little bit of both. Improve the areas that are necessary for you to directly maintain whatever business or brand it is that you want to have, but go all in on your strengths. You going all in on your strengths allows you to become a master at what it is that you do and therefore you will stand out in your arena, but it will also allow you to build community and actively network more. As small businesses we need each others active participation and patronage, it is what allows us continue to grow. For example, I’m currently helping build my community through outsourcing and collaboration. I’m currently partnering with a photographer to help create a program on building brand identity and image because they work directly with artists and entrepreneurs and brand identity directly relates to our own authenticity which is something I help my clients understand and build along with goal setting. Together we have collaborated with an educator to help create courses and modules for this program that we wouldn’t be able to do on our own. This sort of collaboration from playing off of our strengths is what allows us to build community for ourselves and others. It allows us to catapult our growth in new ways and it is necessary for our future in America.
