Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Korrect. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Korrect, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I feel like it is important to always be unapologetically yourself. In situations in which I am clearly the minority, I try my best to be fully aware of the dynamics of whatever room that I may be in and from there I apply myself in a solution-oriented fashion. I’ve come to find that you can be extremely effective while saying little as long as your actions lead to progress.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an artist from Decatur, Georgia. I have been releasing music since 2020 and I plan on releasing my debut project in the near future, I have dedicated most of my time into learning the art of the business so that I can maximize my endeavors with a much more educated approach. I have worked within the film industry for the past 4 years as well, learning the business and exposing myself to new environments that I believe ultimately add to my perspective as an artist. I am looking forward towards all that is to come and I am excited about the opportunities in both film and music that will present themselves as I continue to grow and develop as a professional.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think its essential to be a good listener. I would advise anyone looking to further develop any skill or trade to listen as actively as possible. To actively listen while gaining understanding, puts you in a position to where you organically acquire knowledge and whether that knowledge serves in the future or immediate present it is good to have.
I think resilience is another quality that is essential in any journey worth pursuing. Roadblocks and difficulties are to be expected, however having the right attitude towards a circumstance will literally make or break a situation. To be resilient is often easier said than done however I’ve never heard of any success story where perseverance wasn’t a key component.
I would also say that gratitude is one of the most important qualities to have. To be grateful for where you are in your journey takes the pressure off of where you want to be and brings peace to where you actually are. With such high expectations for myself, I am learning to intentionally practice gratitude so that I am reminded of all that I have as opposed to all that I have yet to gain. This small change can cause a shift in how you see everything and set yourself to receive even more.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents had me in church at a very young age. I believe my faith, beliefs, and overall understanding is greatly influenced by the foundation they set upon me way back then
