Meet Kortnie Hairston

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kortnie Hairston. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kortnie , great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.

Life involves taking risks, and achieving goals requires taking bold steps. In 2018, while still figuring out college, I hesitated to start my clothing line due to a lack of courage and confidence. However, I soon realized that without taking risks, I would miss out on my chance to succeed in life. This business opportunity was a moment I couldn’t afford to miss, as the future favors the risk-takers and not those who cling to comfort. I overcame my procrastination and pushed myself out of my comfort zone to grow and develop the strength necessary to become the business owner I am today.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As Kortnie Hairston(Lucks), I am a 25-year-old entrepreneur with a passion for capturing life’s moments through cinematography. My business, SOS Visuals, was established in 2022 and has since evolved from filming club events to capturing a variety of memorable occasions. I take joy in preserving moments, not just for the financial aspect, but for the ability to experience and cherish them alongside my clients. With my skillful editing, I create lasting narratives that my clients can treasure for years to come. I also have a new venture of starting a podcast headlined “Talk Yo Sh*T Then” podcast January of 2025, stay tuned to hear and see more about that!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

To excel in business, it’s essential to possess three key qualities: problem-solving, effective communication, and planning/organization. These skills enable me to maintain a smooth and successful business operation. I prioritize attentive listening and understanding my clients’ needs during the booking process. I also carefully plan and organize every aspect of my business to ensure ease and efficiency for both parties. Additionally, I believe that staying true to oneself and trusting in the strength of the Lord is crucial for overcoming challenges and achieving success. Problem-solving involves addressing issues such as managing finances, marketing strategies, and resolving customer complaints. By putting God first and having faith in our abilities, we can overcome these challenges or any challenges in the business aspect and achieve a positive mindset that will help our businesses thrive.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

“Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young

“Yet I am with you always, holding you by Yet I am with you always, holding you by your right hand. I am fully aware of your situation, and I will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear. Your gravest danger is worrying about tomorrow. If you try to carry tomorrow’s burdens today, you will stagger under the load and eventually fall flat.”
