Meet Kory Sagendorf

We were lucky to catch up with Kory Sagendorf recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kory, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity stems from the lack of generosity that I received as a child growing up. Nobody ever gave me the time of day as well as When I was 12 years old my mom died in my arms from a drug overdose which changed me and made me the human I am today.
Nobody ever expected I could do anything and nobody considered that I could be something. Because I never got that. I tried to exude it out of me to everyone that comes near.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Well my friends. I do an awful lot, my ADHD to some could be considered a fault to me. I consider it a superpower which allows me to keep my hands in a billion different cookie jars. So with that being said.
I am a professional piercer of 13 years in which I own modified piercings in Tooele, Utah. I don’t actually Pierce because I only love piercings. My number one reason to modifying The appearance of other people has always purely been to help entice self-esteem. I was a bullied child through high school especially for any of my uniqueness such as piercings colored hair, body size.

We recently launched the second part of our company Modified Photography outside of Modified Piercings. Now you can find modified photography at all of your local events.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Communication
Communication
Communication

Look having a multitude of skills is absolutely necessary when trying to work for yourself and not for somebody else. But in my personal opinion the number one skill that you need to have, that I had to have was communication skills. Without communication skills, you will not be able to Master marketing and the ability to get your business out there.
You will not have the ability to master negotiating skills and you will always be paying the higher rates for all of your products.

And without proper communication skills, you will never be able to overcome obstacles from any critic or client.

I have always recommended to everybody to take at least one communications class just to get the basics.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Feeling overwhelmed is a absent part of being a business owner and working for yourself. It’s going to happen and you need to learn that breaking down the situation will absolutely stop you from feeling as overwhelmed as you could be.

Remember, there is nothing that you have done in your journey to self-employment that somebody else has not already done so don’t be scared to ask for help. Just cuz you’re doing it yourself doesn’t mean you have to do it alone.

Break down the problem
Separate each individual aspect and accomplish everything individually.
