Meet Koura Linda

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Koura Linda. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Koura, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

That is a tough questions because I struggle immensely with both confidence and self-esteem.

Getting past that has been a combination of both just bluntly sucking it up and going for things despite fear, and then just having the experience over the decades to sort of override the self-doubt.

There is a great quote from Erika Christensen years and years ago in People magazine or something like that where she talked about doing things you’ve never done before. She said that all you have to do is do something once, and now you’re someone who has done that thing.

Reading that really helped me, and I think about it a lot.

All you have to do is do something once, and now you’re someone who has done it. Then do it again, and again, and you get good at it. And your self-esteem can build.

You just need the confidence to do it once, and that is just remembering things like “the time is going to pass either way so you might as well try.”

Also, stay away from people who make you feel like crap for trying things, or who make you feel small or weak or wrong because you’re not perfect yet.

True friends want to see you win, and cheer you on while you grow. Having people like that in your life is a HUGE help as well.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I had my first official job when I was 15 (over 25 years ago), and I’ve been lucky enough to work professionally across many fields and in many industries, holding lots of different jobs which have afforded me the opportunity to learn and grow across so many area.

It also doesn’t hurt that I am 100% neurodivergent and my mind loves doing a million things at once. So I thrive learning one thing after another!

In 2013 I founded Space Dream Productions as a film production company, which then expanded into a full media production company in 2021.

That means that I run the company, managing our projects and overseeing our incredible employees, contractors, and collaborators. We have a full internship program and I get to mentor college students and recent graduates from around the country, which is such an honor and helps keep my faith in future generations alive.

We produce films, working with film investors and funding our own smaller projects to bring stories to the big screen.

And we use our filmmaking skills and accolades to collaborate with clients either on their film projects or for marketing content (editing viral content receiving hundreds of millions of views, collaborating on content creation ideas, graphic design, things like that).

We have one of our films on Amazon Prime (“Names On The Wall”), some upcoming webinars I’m hosting, and several feature films we’re working to finance and get into production, while working with our clients and taking on more clients to support them as well!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

There is a very overused quote about you being the driver of your own life, but that is just so true.

Another quote is the one about how just because you’re being given a cactus doesn’t mean you have to sit on it.

For that one, sometimes the desire to ensure that the world can see how wrong someone or something is to make things hard for you can be really strong. But then you’re spending all your energy amplifying their voice and their awfulness, instead of focusing on figuring out how you’re going to deal with that cactus.

Yes, they are wrong. No, you shouldn’t have to live with a cactus. But if you have a cactus, now what?

Don’t sit on it. Get rid of it. Or put a cute hat on it and call it Fred and keep it on your desk and tell people you have to get home to Fred when you need an excuse to leave a party.

For real though, it’s hard, it sucks, but you get a lot further in life and can be so much more empowered by focusing on what you can do, how you can take another step forward, how you can keep going, figure out a solution, keep moving towards your dreams and your goals.

And “it’s hard” means it is actually hard to do that. I work on that every day, and I still struggle with it all the time.

But in the end, I’m that much closer to my dreams because at least I’m a step closer than I was before I kept trying.

I don’t know if that perfectly answers as three things, but that’s what I got!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m currently working to expand my company so I can continue to provide steady employment to more people in creative and administrative fields.

For this reason we’re always open to new clients and new project investors who want to support independent films.

Hiring us means having access to a full team and all of the adjacent administrative support for your film project or content creation.

Unlike other content creators or independent filmmakers, we have a full team of highly trained marketing and film specialists who are active in both areas and constantly making movies and making content, and available to be hired for both roles.

And unlike former filmmakers who turn to marketing, we’re a successful team across the boards who saw the breakdown of storytelling in the world of marketing so offer our creative services for hire to support others while succeeding as filmmakers.

We’re constantly making new films, with multiple films in festivals at once almost always. So hiring us for a film project means bringing in our active levels of experience and expertise to any project.

At the time of answering this question, the last film I directed and produced was two weeks ago. The last festival screening was less than a week ago. And the last award we won was also two weeks ago, which brought our winning streak to 9 years in a row of wining awards for our work, and a total of over 70 awards.

We try to keep our costs lower than most boutique agencies, and even more affordable than some freelancers because we’re a remote team with low overhead and we pass that on to you (even though we’re all humans, and U.S. based).

On the other side, investing in our films means providing work for full film production crews, while getting new movies made and being a part of the film industry and cinematic history!
