We were lucky to catch up with Kourtney Galloway recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kourtney, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience came from God first. And then from the women who lived what they couldn’t always say.
Women like my grandmother, who prayed through her hands; cooking, folding, wiping tears, showing up even when no one asked her to. Or my mama, who could speak truth with softness and still be heard. Watching them taught me that strength doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it looks like quiet consistency. Sometimes it looks like choosing not to quit.
Faith has carried me through the kind of seasons that strip you down. Plans fell apart. People left. Dreams delayed. And still, there was this stillness from God, like a whisper in the middle of the wreckage, reminding me that I was still whole. Still called. Still becoming. That whisper was often all there was; but it was enough.
Resilience, for me, isn’t about bouncing back. It’s about becoming more grounded. Choosing to build forward with what’s left. Choosing softness without surrender. Choosing to keep creating even when everything says stop.
That’s where the strength comes from. From being rooted in something deeper than performance. From legacy. From grace.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Professionally, I lead with creativity, purpose, and a deep sense of legacy. I’m the founder of Revamped Creative, a Mississippi-based agency focused on legacy-driven branding, talent management, and creative direction. We help purpose-led voices build platforms that feel true to who they are. Whether it’s a public speaker finding clarity in their message, a model stepping fully into their presence, or a campaign rooted in Black Southern history, every project we touch is about more than visuals. It’s about meaning. It’s about memory. It’s about voice.
I also founded Belle Candle Co., a sensory storytelling brand rooted in soft Black girlhood and emotional healing. Though it’s currently on pause, it remains close to my heart. So does Freedom Revamped, a platform I launched as a teenager that became a home for hundreds of girls across the country. It was my first real taste of what it means to build something sacred from scratch.
Right now, my focus is on growing Revamped Creative, producing a series of cultural campaigns that honor Southern Black legacy, and launching Season 1 of my podcast, Kourt by Grace. I’m also leading our fall internship program, where we’re training the next generation of creatives to lead with intention, not just aesthetics. Everything I build is rooted in grace, purpose, and a quiet belief that we can still create beautiful things from the hard parts of our story.
This is more than work to me. It’s calling. It’s stewardship. It’s legacy in real time.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities have shaped my journey more than anything: discernment, emotional resilience, and storytelling.
Discernment taught me that every opportunity is not an assignment. Especially in creative work, people will try to stretch your gift to fit their agenda. Learning how to pause, pray, and listen before saying yes has saved me from burnout and kept me aligned with purpose. For anyone just starting, don’t be afraid to move slower. Clarity comes in the stillness. God will never rush what He intends to last.
Emotional resilience didn’t come easy. I had to learn how to stay soft in a world that often demands hardness. People will misunderstand you. Doors will close. Things you loved might fall apart. But your softness doesn’t make you weak. It makes you real. To those early in the journey: let yourself feel what you feel. But let faith guide what you do next.
And then there’s storytelling. That’s been my anchor. Knowing how to tell a story, your own, your client’s, your brand’s, is powerful. It creates connection. It creates change. Whether you’re a writer, designer, speaker, or strategist, take time to study the art of telling truth well. It will carry you.
Whatever season you’re in, protect your peace, trust your pace, and remember that your becoming is not a race. It’s a revelation.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
The biggest area of growth for me this past year has been learning how to honor my own voice again. Without rushing, shrinking, or explaining it away.
There was a point where I started building out of obligation instead of alignment. Saying yes to things I had outgrown. Carrying things God never asked me to hold. And the cost was quiet but heavy. My creativity dimmed. My boundaries blurred. I started forgetting who I was before people had opinions about her.
But this year, I’ve been learning how to return. To pause. To protect the soft parts of me. To lead from overflow instead of urgency. And to build slower, but with more soul.
Whether in business, relationships, or my own healing, this has been the year of intentional return. Back to purpose. Back to clarity. Back to God. That kind of growth isn’t loud, but it’s deep. And it’s changing everything I touch.
