Hi Kourtney , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Hello my name is Kourtney J. Lampkin. I have been dancing and teaching classical ballet for over a decade. The world of dance has afforded me many opportunities and blessings. I remember as a little girl at the age of six years old my aunt bought me a ballerina Barbie doll. I just remember staring at it in its box and thinking to myself how beautiful this black ballerina Barbie doll looks. Years past and at the age of 10 Yrs old my mother enrolled me into dance classes. I was nervous, scared and didn’t know what to
expect.
My first ballet class was intriguing and exciting at the same time. Each time I attended class I feel in love with it. My dance instructor wanted to expand my technique and experience different styles of dance such as modern, jazz, and Tap. I’ve danced for the Texas Ballet theater, Baton Rouge Ballet theater, also mentored under the famous dance instructor and actress Mrs.Debbie Allen.
My Life changed when I was introduced to Classical ballet. My first movie as an extra “Any giving Sunday” starring Al Pacino and Jamie Foxx was an amazing experience, 2nd movie called “Kid’s Lives ” with Eryka Badu. I took a break and continued education my Education at South University of Baton Rouge A&M college. But I would always have dreams of dancing and teaching children. It was too the point of every night I was having the same exact dream ever night. I felt it was God showing me what I was meant to do. however my sophomore year I auditioned for the Nut Cracker with the Baton Rouge Ballet theater.
I knew this was my purpose because God was consistent in showing me exactly what to do. at times I would try to stray from it, God would always remind me to follow the destiny he had for me. As scary and exciting as it was, I opened my dream dance studio called Royalty Ballet company. I’m thankful and blessed everyday that I listened to what God showed me and continuing to show me,so that I can share my gift with the World.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back the three qualities that stuck with me where

1) you don’t have to have it all figured out.

2) yes it will be scary, frustrating and hard most of the time.

3) pray about it, take the first step and listen to what God shows you what to do next.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My Mother Ruth Pruitt -Lampkin is the one person who has been influential in my life. She was truly my saving grace and I can never stop thanking her and loving her.
