Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kris Larson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kris, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from the challenges I’ve faced and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Moving to San Diego at a young age and building my practice from the ground up taught me perseverance, adaptability, and the power of believing in myself. Every challenge or hurdle has been an opportunity to grow stronger and more focused.
My resilience also comes from the passion I have for what I do. Helping people improve their health and wellbeing gives me a sense of purpose that keeps me going, even when things get tough. Knowing I’m making a positive impact drives me forward. I’ve learned to embrace challenges as part of the journey and focus on what I can control.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My journey has been shaped by a desire to make a positive impact on people’s health and well-being. I moved to San Diego on my own when I was 21, and that experience taught me independence, adaptability, and the importance of taking risks. These traits have served me well in my professional career, where I’ve been focused on growing my practice in functional medicine and acupuncture.
I founded my own practice at 29, which has been one of the most rewarding challenges of my life. My work focuses on helping people not only manage their physical health but also improve their overall quality of life. I’ve found that combining functional medicine with acupuncture provides a holistic approach that addresses both the root cause of health issues and it helps clients achieve long-lasting improvements in their overall well-being.
Right now, I’m deeply focused on expanding the reach of my practice. I’m particularly passionate about educating others on the importance of natural, integrative health solutions. It’s not just about treating symptoms, but about giving people the tools to live a more balanced and healthy life.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience: Running my own practice required a lot of resilience—there were times when things didn’t go as planned, and I had to keep pushing forward. This quality helped me face uncertainty, manage risks, and stay motivated. Advice: For those starting out, my advice is to build mental resilience by embracing challenges as learning opportunities. Surround yourself with a support network and engage in practices like mindfulness or whatever comes in a form of meditation that help you stay grounded through difficult times.
Adaptability: The health and wellness field, like any industry, is constantly evolving. I had to stay open to change—whether that was adopting new techniques, adjusting business strategies, or responding to market trends. Advice: Flexibility is key, so stay curious and open to trying new things, even when they take you out of your comfort zone. Being adaptable allows you to grow and respond quickly to the needs of your clients and your business.
Lifelong Learning: Whether it’s staying up to date with advancements in functional medicine or learning how to run the business side of my practice, continuous learning has been essential. Advice: Never stop learning—seek out mentors, business coaches, take courses, and keep investing in yourself. The more you expand your knowledge, the more confident and capable you’ll feel in your journey.
Ultimately, my advice for anyone just starting out is to be patient with yourself. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but with resilience, adaptability, and the love for learning, you can navigate the ups and downs and create something meaningful.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who is proactive about their health and well-being and is open to holistic and integrative approaches. They are typically individuals who are looking for long-term solutions rather than quick fixes, and they understand the importance of addressing the root causes of their health concerns.
They also tend to value balance in their lives and are committed to making lifestyle changes, whether through nutrition, stress management, or natural therapies, to support their healing journey. Having a curiosity and willingness to explore complementary treatments, like functional medicine and acupuncture, makes our work together much more effective.
An ideal client for me is also someone who views our sessions as a partnership. They’re engaged, ask questions, and follow through on recommendations because they are invested in their own health. Ultimately, I work best with individuals who are committed to growth, self-care, and transformation. They don’t expect overnight results, but they trust the process and are willing to take an active role in their healing journey.
