Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kris Urquhart. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kris, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by doing things that challenge my comfort level and continue to find ways to present my personality. Getting out of my comfort level allows me to be vulnerable and try something different. Trying something new gives me a chance to put my own twist on things. Now combine all of those things and you get a freedom that you can’t really describe but it feels amazing.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi ! I am a model with 10+ years experience in the business! I am a runway , print, and bridal model based in Philadelphia, Pa and Brooklyn, NY. I specialize in print modeling as I love creating mood boards and visuals and watching them come to life. Watching an idea come to life is truly a feeling I can’t describe as it is one of art’s purest forms.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities to have in the modeling industry are confidence, loyalty, and vulnerability . You have to be confident in yourself. You will not always fit someone’s idea or standard and that is perfectly okay. You have to believe you matter to the industry. You have to accept that not being someone’s idea is okay because you are your own idea. Loyalty is important in a different way than most think and believe. The loyalty is really to yourself and who you are as a person. The industry can change you if you are not sure about yourself. Stay true to yourself and do what makes you happy. Vulnerability is important because you have to be willing to step out and try something new. Try that black and white photoshoot. Take that runway class. Step out in faith!
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client would be a designer with amazing creative designs . They have to believe in their designs and their visions! It doesn’t matter if its clothes , handbag , or shoe designer but believing in what they do is most important. Someone who is okay with taking risks or trying something new to capture the story/art.
