Meet Krista Jee Baxter

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Krista Jee Baxter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Krista Jee, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Well, my honest opinion is the best way for anyone to completely be successful in a room full of people that generally looks the same and you are the only one that is different or stands out in the crowd is by being your confident and loving self. It may sound cliche but, ultimately it’s the white knuckled truth in almost any situation. I believe that if you’re in a business setting whether it’s as an artist position working onset, behind the scenes, behind the chair, or a personal and business situation the strongest and most effective approach is by being positive and confident. The key to success and the best way to do this is by taking a deep breathe and be yourself under no circumstance. By allowing people to approach you because, of your natural magnetism and talented energy is what everyone looks for first and if you do this everyone in the room will be looking at you with curiosity and your captivating without having to lift a finger and that is pure magic.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My story is simple I love what I do for a living that is why I put so much energy into it! I prefer to call myself an image consultant as I take in consideration absolutely everything when working with a client. For example their life style, their profession, family, timelines, face shape, style preference, and we go over skin tones and complimentary colors as well. Budget is also a big one I discuss a lot with clients and it never hurts to ask what would make them comfortable.

I have my own product lines for hair, skin, and make up because, I kindly prefer to work with companies that I know will delivery high quality results with no harsh chemicals or side effects. When you sit in my chair my focus is on you and you only. I like to walk clients through the process and explain how I do things and I also provide make up lessons and hair styling lessons to clients that have trouble achieving their look at home. I also developed a lot of my skills from working onset with actors and entertainers of all walk of life. This is a truly serious passion of mine and I believe I will continue to do this the rest of my life!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Most impactful looking back would be the mentors I had when I first started out. I had no idea what I was doing. The skills came from the motivation to never give up and the true passion for my craft. The knowledge is something I accumulated from putting myself out there to attain it every way that I could.

My advice would be to not give up even when you want to or feel the need to. Consistency is the key and have a really good small circle that loves you at all times.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am always looking for another artist to collaborate with! There are not enough out there ready to put in the work on great ideas but, I am here to tell you that I am! I would like to find people that are like minded and ready to create something that will last forever.
