Meet Krista Jones

We were lucky to catch up with Krista Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.

Krista, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
That’s a great question! I will say this, I did not grow up poor, but we definitely were not rich lol….With that said, if I wanted the fly clothes and shoes all of the time, then I needed to work for it. I got my first job at the age of 12 at the Crenshaw Plaza in LA gift-wrapping. After that, I always kept weekend jobs as a teen at different retail stores, so I am just used to working and making my own money.

I also grew up in a family where everyone worked, so I guess it’s just part of my family dynamic. We hustle and we are very independent!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have always been passionate about natural beauty products and the overall health of my community. When I was in the beginning phases of starting Truth Skincare, I was doing quite a bit of research and quickly realized that there were very few organic skincare products of good quality that were both accessible & affordable.

So in 2020, when we were all in stuck in the house due to Covid-19 and dealing with the harsh reality of police brutality, I decided to take all of those raw emotions and channel them into something positive. That’s when I launched on Juneteeth 2020!

I can say that I am proud to still be around and growing. I am gearing up to have my products featured again for a 2nd season of the hit show Let’s Make a Deal with Wayne Brady. I can also be found in select retail stores in LA’s Westfield shopping centers.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say confidence. Confidence in yourself and your ideas are important. I say that because a lot of times we can can have a great idea, share it with someone, and then allow them to shut it down or discourage us. Me personally, I never like to tell anyone my ideas or plans ahead of time. I wait until they are already close to finalization before I share with anyone because other peoples’ opinions can really throw you off from your goals.

Secondly, I’d have to say a strong work ethic. This one is pretty obvious, right? We all know that if you do not put in the work, you will not see the results!

Lastly, I would say resilience. As a business owner, you have to understand that everythIng will not always go as planned. You will have set backs, you will make mistakes, etc. It’s ultimately how you react to those challenges that matter. Can you pivot unexpectedly? Are you able to take rejection at times? That matters as a business owner and also just as a regular person in the workforce.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Right now, I am looking to get into more retail stores. Whether that be Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or a smaller mom and pop owned retail business. I am open and thankful for all opportunities!

Also, I am looking for a few really great Beauty Influencers and Content Creators to collaborate with as well on social media. I would love to grow my presence on social media and could benefit form the help of additional content creators and influencers.
