Meet Krista King

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krista King. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krista below.

Hi Krista, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

My confidence and self-esteem grew through a process of learning, adapting, and constantly improving. My passion for photography began at an early age, where I took on the role of family photographer and videographer. By 13, I began modeling, which spanned over a decade and took me around the world, with editorial, catalog, and advertising jobs along the way.

Working with top photographers provided invaluable insight into the art of capturing moments and freezing time. This exposure sparked my interest in strobe lights and developing my own photographic style. I went on to study Art at San Diego State University, focusing on Graphic Design, where I learned both traditional darkroom techniques and how to edit digital images using Adobe Photoshop. It was during this time that I was asked to photograph events for a nonprofit, marking the beginning of my freelance photography career.

Building confidence and self-esteem wasn’t instantaneous—it took years of photoshoots, learning, and personal growth. Photography has been a constant in my life, and my passion for it continues to grow. Capturing portraits and documenting events has become my love language, a way to connect with others through the art of storytelling.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I specialize in portrait photography, capturing moments that reflect the true essence of each client. Whether in the studio or on location, I create a relaxed and welcoming environment that helps people feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. My editing skills are sharp and professional, ensuring your images are print-ready—even for large-scale display. I take pride in every detail of the process, from the initial concept to the final retouch, delivering portraits you’ll be proud to showcase.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Portrait photographers must be able to connect with their clients and create a space where they feel confident and at ease. Guiding them with posing and movement is just as important as making them feel comfortable. And finally, strong editing skills are essential—turning a beautiful photograph into something truly extraordinary.
