We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristen Dunn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristen below.
Hi Kristen, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I have been working out for over ten years. I am a mom of a three and a half year old boy and it is important to me to stay active and healthy for him. I workout for about three hours a day. I will either go for a run, take a cycling or yoga class, weightlift or even just walk on the treadmill. Working out helps me clear my mind and I feel accomplished after.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have been working out and running for over ten years. When I first started running, I was only running 5Ks. After a year, I started running longer distances and doing Spartan Races. My goal was to run a marathon. I ran my first marathon in 2020 and I said I would never run a marathon again. An opportunity came to run the 2024 Walt Disney World Marathon. I love Disney World and I knew I had to run it. I am always looking for new goals to challenge myself. Running helps me clear my mind and helps me boost my mental health and reduce stress. My son sees me run and wants to run with me. I push him in the stroller for runs and he loves it. He enjoys running the kids races.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If you have a goal in life, go for it. My goal was to run a marathon. Training for a marathon can be tough for some. At first I didn’t eat enough carbs. My body told me to eat more carbs real early in my training. I had to switch my diet to go with my marathon training. Proper fuel is so important. I kept focused on my goal and making sure my body was healthy for the marathon. If your goal is to run a marathon, stay focused, hydrate and fuel your body properly, and stretch. Stretching is so important for your body.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I met my husband in 2015 when I first started my fitness journey. He was a runner and I figured I would start running with him as something to do together. After the first run, I was hooked. We have ran every race together including the Spartan Races and two marathons. He has always been the one to give me advice in fitness, running, and in my career. He has always been my number one fan and supporter. When I ran my first marathon, I didn’t think I was going to finish. He was the one encouraging me to keep going. He told me it’s ok to stop running and walk. He was the one rubbing biofreeze on my legs during both marathons. If it wasn’t for him, I probably would have not gotten into running. I am grateful for him and helping me achieve my goals.
