Meet Kristen Fewel

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristen Fewel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

For many years I took my health for granted, spending years taking care of others in my work as a massage therapist and yoga teacher, and for my family. Perimenopause was a critical time in my life where everything changed. I was forced to look at every aspect of my lifestyle and make big changes, bigger than I ever thought possible. Although, by most peoples’ standards, I lived a healthy lifestyle, it was no match for what menopause had in store for me. After going down the rabbit-hole of allopathic medicine, I contacted an ayurvedic practitioner (a type of holistic doctor) to help me understand my symptoms and their root causes.

As a yoga practitioner, I am not interested in simply putting a band-aid on my problems. I sought to understand the myriad effects of menopause on the body and mind so I could address the root cause of my symptoms and find my way back to health.

My self-care journey included journaling everything I consumed, frequency and time of hot flashes, my digestive habits, my sleep habits, my emotional states, and physical movement. In the early weeks of the worst symptoms, I adopted a daily Yoga Nidra, a conscious deep rest, for several hours daily, so my body would adjust to my hormonal metamorphosis. After a few months, I was able to taper the Yoga Nidra to 1/2 hour daily which continues to be an integral part of my yoga and meditation practice.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Full Circle Yoga & Healing Arts in Yorba Linda CA is where I do most of my teaching and healing work. With more than 30 years in holistic health, I design custom yoga and meditation sequences with a focus on helping those with special conditions, or beginners who need an individualized approach to yoga.

As an energyworker and healer, I also do deep healing sessions for a range of situations including pain relief, trauma processing, grief and loss, intention setting, and spiritual guidance. My broad background in mind-body-spirit modalities for over three decades makes me a unique resource that appeals to many folks who aren’t satisfied with the “you’ll just have to live with it” response they received from medical or religious organizations.

The results of my work are very exciting because my clients and students get amazing results, often in just one session. Over the years I have developed tremendous faith in positive, even miraculous, outcomes because I see them happen all the time, so I am very optimistic about the outcomes for clients with very challenging situations.

I’m excited to share my latest offering of Video Classes. Earlier this year we recorded my Meditation Teacher Training, Reiki training, and other live yoga workshops to make them available to anyone, anywhere. I have always preferred to teach to actual people, so when you take my video class, a class was actually happening so it’s like being right there in the room with us. You also get access to all the same learning materials as those who attended in-person. My video class library is available on my website, fullcircleyogaoc.com.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As a highly sensitive intuitive person, I am able to discern the source of a person’s problem quite quickly. I have been called a “body whisperer” which means that my sensitivity lies in my ability to “hear” and sometimes visualize what needs to be reconnected or healed, and how best to accomplish that in a way that the individual cannot do on their own.

My diverse background in anatomical studies, psychology, and energywork has been extremely helpful in my work as a trauma-informed yoga teacher and healer. I am able to help yoga students who have conditions for which a “regular” class wouldn’t be appropriate. And for my clients who are also highly sensitive, I am able to explain how to protect and fortify their energy so the gifts of their spiritual awakening can arise for them.

For the majority of my career, I have been self-employed. I am not shy about helping the most amount of people possible through transformative energywork and yoga. My unique set of skills doesn’t fit typical employment scenarios, but my ability to be a self-starter and strive for personal and professional growth has given me great freedom in how and what I teach and do the best healing work for my clients.

My best advice is to heal yourself and understand yourself deeply. This is what yoga and meditation is all about. The healing journey must begin with you. I recommend learning everything you can about what interests you. Watch closely the people you respect, and try to emulate the aspects of their personal or professional journey while staying true to yourself. Learn to separate the teachings from the teacher. I recommend listening to podcasts and reading books by individuals who inspire you. Take a class and ask questions. Beware a teacher who claims to have all the answers. The right teacher for you is the one who will do their best to teach you, but is also not afraid to say they don’t know.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Great impact happens from great collaborations! I am interested in collaborating with individuals who value my work and want to share it with groups, teams, and organizations. It would be my great pleasure to be on a panel discussion, or deliver a presentation, workshop, or healing experience to a group of 5-50 in the US or abroad.
