Meet Kristen Ottea

We recently connected with Kristen Ottea and have shared our conversation below.

Kristen, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my father. He taught me at a young age you gotta work hard to get places in life. I genuinely enjoy working, because I love my job. I figure if I can’t be out hunting constantly I may as well at least be around it 😄

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I took my father’s taxidermy shop over about 8 years ago and I never looked back. I have a very artistic mind so I can really get creative when creating ideas for mounts for people. I love the outdoors and I love hunting especially so it’s really awesome to get to recreate a memory so special for someone through taxidermy.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Definitely a good work ethic, an open mind and constantly learning. I always ask others opinions and what they would do so maybe I could learn a trick or two.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Probably someone who lets me be creative with their mount. I really love to be able to create something from scratch and see where it takes me.,
