Meet Kristen Phillips

We were lucky to catch up with Kristen Phillips recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I think finding your purpose is one of the single most important things you can do to truly achieve happiness. For me, I consistently spent years in different corporate jobs feeling very unfulfilled on a soul level. I enjoy learning new things so I would be fairly content with a new job for 2-3 years and then the sinking feeling of not living my purpose would inevitably creep in. I honored those feelings and was simply unwilling to stay in an unfulfilling job year after year. It took hitting some low points to really motivate a significant change.

There were certain things I knew for sure when I was trying to figure out what to do outside of the corporate world. I knew that I wanted my own business, and I also knew that it would revolve around helping people and have something to do with health and wellness. At that point I had to simply let go and stop trying so hard to figure out exactly what that was going to look like. I was slowly led to the business concept that I eventually developed. It was through exploring what lit me up inside and having a lot of brainstorming conversations with those around me in a variety of wellness businesses. It took a lot of time and work, but the outcome was well worth it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I own Soul Wellness which is a co-working space for wellness, therapeutic, medical and beauty providers. Managing a center full of such amazingly talented individuals is an incredible feeling. I see clients and patients having life-changing experiences daily. I truly visualized Soul Wellness as being the ultimate healing center in the area with a wide variety of resources for anyone!

Not only do I get to witness a lot of healing taking place at the center, I also get to help a lot of small businesses thrive together in one place. I wear many hats at Soul Wellness and one of those is promoting the talented providers in the center. We have a total of 30 rooms and 2 classrooms at the center so there is always a lot taking place. I designed this co-working space to fit anyone’s budget so that a new business could have a place to start, or an established business could have a great place to thrive. We offer furnished daily rooms that can be rented by the half or full day as well as unfurnished monthly spaces. Our classrooms are open to the public to rent and offer a comfortable, convenient place for sales meetings of any kind.

In the near future, I plan to start a podcast that will consist of interviews with our tenants so that the public can explore a multitude of holistic modalities and understand exactly how they help you heal. It will be called Soul Wellness with Kristen.

On Saturday, February 24th, we will open our doors to the public and have a Mind, Body & Soul Expo. We do these events every 3-4 months so that anyone can visit and have mini-sessions with our providers. It’s a great way to discover alternative means to your health. We will also have vendors selling all kinds of handmade and organic products at this event.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think having determination, passion and a positive outlook are key. Knowing that you are on the right path because of how your work lights you up will keep you focused through the harder times. The best advice I can give to anyone is to do your research and have a business plan. Talk with anyone and everyone that has anything to do with what you are creating. Be open to ideas and things you never thought of on your own. Really focus on what you are offering and who you are targeting. You can’t be everything to everyone and I think trying to cover all bases is a great way to lose focus and not excel in any direction.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client or tenant rather is someone who either has existing clientele or is laser focused on who they are targeting. It’s best if a business owner is comfortable hunting for business rather than waiting to be discovered. They also need to understand that they are unique in their offerings and our area has more people than they could ever service alone. So, competition is not an issue. Making sure that the community knows about their business and marketing in the right areas is imperative. I help promote my tenants through social media, the Soul Wellness website and having their biographies displayed at our physical location. A tenant at Soul Wellness does well by wanting to be in an environment with other practitioners. It creates a lot of synergy for the ultimate well-being of the client/patient receiving a service. Many of our providers refer to each other which is another way they help each other thrive.
