Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristen Reimer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kristen, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve searched for a sense of purpose, facing struggles with weight, self-doubt, and the rollercoaster of balancing family, work, and self-care. My journey with my weight and self-image has been a constant thread throughout my life, teaching me resilience and empathy. Life took me through a range of roles—pharmaceutical sales, teaching high school science, and even automating a family business. But despite my accomplishments, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing.
Everything changed on February 5, 2013. I made a decision that would become a turning point: I committed to a path of health, not just for a season, but for life. At that time, I wasn’t only seeking physical fitness—I was searching for peace, balance, and a way to feel at home in my own skin. For the first time, I focused not just on losing weight but on creating a healthy lifestyle that integrated physical, mental, and emotional wellness.
I became an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer and later a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, diving deep into nutrition, fitness, and mental health. Over time, I learned that wellness is a delicate blend of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. With a scientific foundation from my degree in Chemistry and further studies in Biology and Education, I have tried to approach health from both a knowledgeable and compassionate place.
When I founded BOCO Fit Rage, it wasn’t just about opening a gym—it was about creating a space that empowered, supported, and inspired the people in my community. I wanted BOCO Fit Rage to be a welcoming hub where people could find both strength and belonging. The gym became my sanctuary, a place where I could not only work on my own healing from depression, anxiety, and PTSD but also help others transform their lives. I find so much joy in coaching others through fitness and nutrition, knowing that I’ve walked a similar path.
One of my greatest privileges has been working with Special Olympics athletes. Our gym is a certified Special Olympics affiliate, and we offer a free class specifically for these incredible athletes. Watching them push their limits, laugh, and thrive reminds me why I started this journey in the first place. They’ve shown me that strength goes beyond physical power; it’s about resilience, joy, and showing up, no matter the challenges.
Giving back to my community has always been an essential part of my purpose. Over the years, I’ve organized various fundraisers, including “Booby Bootcamp,” which we held for 10 years to support a local woman fighting breast cancer, and “Burpees for SARA Roanoke,” which raises funds for a local nonprofit that provides counseling for survivors of sexual assault. These events remind me of the power of collective support and compassion.
But perhaps my greatest motivation is closer to home—I want to be an inspiration to my son and my family. I strive every day to be a kind, compassionate and loving mom, spouse, and human being, knowing that these values make a difference not only in my own life but also in theirs. I hope my journey can show them that perseverance, empathy, and a commitment to growth are the foundations of a fulfilling life.
Looking back, I realize that my path to wellness wasn’t just about shedding pounds or gaining muscle. It was about finding my purpose in a role that allows me to give back, using my experiences to help others live fuller, healthier lives. Now, at 50, I feel stronger and more connected to my purpose than ever. I’m honored to support others in finding their own balance and strength, and to show that transformation is possible at any age.
Finding purpose is a journey that’s unique to each of us. For me, it’s been about blending my love for science, my dedication to health, and my commitment to my community and family. Each day, I am grateful to continue this work, knowing that our struggles can fuel our greatest strengths—and that, to me, is the true purpose of living well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

What really sets us apart is the family we’ve created. The Rage House is free from negativity and judgment—only encouragement, support, and fun! Our family-like atmosphere helps clients feel comfortable, confident, and motivated, no matter where they are on their wellness journey. Our goal is to help our community build strength, resilience, and the tools for a balanced, healthier life.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most impactful qualities that have helped me in my journey are empathy and compassion to support people from all walks of life, resilience and determination that fuels my journey and hopefully inspires others, and holistic wellness knowledge that helps support my clients in achieving healthier lifestyles.
Here are some tips that I always recommend to those starting a wellness journey:
• Start Small and Be Patient: Progress takes time, and real change doesn’t happen overnight. Focus on making small, sustainable changes that you can build upon over time. Set realistic goals and celebrate each small victory.
• Embrace Consistency Over Perfection: It’s normal to have setbacks, but the key is to keep showing up. Consistency in fitness, nutrition, and self-care is what leads to lasting results. Don’t let one bad day discourage you; every day is a new opportunity to make choices that serve your well-being.
• Seek a Supportive Community: Surrounding yourself with positive, supportive people makes all the difference. Find a group or a workout buddy who can hold you accountable and encourage you. Having people who cheer you on, share your challenges, and celebrate your progress makes the journey much more enjoyable.
• Focus on Mindset and Self-Compassion: Your mental and emotional well-being are as important as physical health. Treat yourself with compassion, and remember that this journey is about more than appearance—it’s about feeling good, building strength, and taking care of yourself from the inside out.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
The first thing I do when I feel overwhelmed is take a step back and breathe. If that doesn’t do the trick I will distract myself by reading a book, watching a show, or working out. When the overwhelm lasts for an extended period of time I try to refocus on my purpose and remind myself why I do what I do and of the people I help. If needed I will make an appointment with my therapist or talk to others I trust.
My advice to others is to find what works for them and to practice self-compassion. It is ok to feel overwhelmed at times. We put so much pressure on ourselves that maybe the overwhelm is trying to tell us to slow down, take a break or switch directions.
