We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristen Slizgi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristen below.
Hi Kristen, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I have always been very independent at an early age and somehow knew if something wasn’t working or couldn’t be figured out, it was up to me to do it. When things didn’t seem to “work out for me”, I was always quick to change course and try something else. I’m a firm believer in following the doors that are opening for you naturally and view the doors that close are just not for me to pursue. I’m not sure if this was innate or something taught at an early age, but it’s just how I operate and view things. Things will continue to come at us (good & bad) and the only real control is our reaction over it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Kristen and I have been working as a travel advisor specializing in luxury travel for over 10 years. My passion is designing personalized trips for clients who value unique experiences, seamless planning, and elevated service.
I was raised in San Diego, California but have split my time between living in Nicaragua, the U.S. and Italy. Being able to live abroad has allowed me to stay closely connected to both established favorites and hidden gems across the globe.
Part of my job also requires me to travel several times a year so I can gain firsthand insight for my clients. This includes attending travel shows, explore new hotel openings, and uncovering up-and-coming destinations. This on-the-ground experience allows me to offer my clients informed, current, and highly personalized recommendations that you simply can’t find in a search engine.
Right now, I am in a new chapter of my life raising a family. I am so excited to share my passion for travel with my children and can’t wait to see where these next years takes us!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In this profession, having an entrepreneurial mindset is essential. You’re not only responsible for building and nurturing your own client base, but also for managing your schedule in a way that keeps your business running efficiently. Success requires taking initiative—actively seeking out travel opportunities, staying proactive with communication, and consistently keeping yourself informed about the travel industry and its ever-changing trends.

How would you describe your ideal client?
An ideal client for me is someone who’s willing to hand over just enough control to let me do what I do best. Creating the perfect trip is a collaborative process—we combine their preferences, priorities, and budget with my expertise and industry insight. When clients trust me to take the lead, I’m able to transform their ideas into a thoughtfully crafted, and unforgettable travel experience.
