Meet Kristin Marquet

We were lucky to catch up with Kristin Marquet recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kristin , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Being the only one in the room is a reality I’ve faced countless times throughout my career—whether in high-stakes business meetings, media panels, or networking events where I didn’t fit the traditional mold. Early on, I realized that instead of shrinking back or trying to blend in, I had to own my presence and turn what made me different into a competitive advantage.

I learned to be effective by over-preparing and ensuring that my expertise spoke louder than people’s assumptions about me. I made it a point to talk confidently, establish authority quickly, and build value-based relationships. Over time, I found that embracing what made me unique—my perspective, my experience, and my approach—wasn’t a disadvantage at all. It made me memorable and respected and positioned me as a leader in my industry. The biggest lesson? You don’t need to fit in to be successful. You need to be undeniably great at what you do.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I run Marquet Media and FemFounder, where I help entrepreneurs, especially women-led businesses, build their brands, gain media exposure, and create lasting impact through strategic PR and digital marketing. Over the last 17 years, I’ve worked across industries—from fashion and beauty to tech and finance—helping businesses go from unknown to widely recognized through thoughtful brand positioning and media placements.

What excites me most about my work is the power of visibility—how one well-placed feature, compelling brand narrative, or strategic media opportunity can transform a business overnight. PR isn’t just about press; it’s about building authority, credibility, and long-term brand equity. I love taking a business that’s doing incredible work and making sure the world sees it.

I’m now expanding my digital offerings to make PR and branding more accessible to entrepreneurs who might not be ready for an agency-level commitment. Through DIY PR templates, media pitch kits, and strategic branding courses, I’m helping founders take control of their visibility and tell their stories in a way that gets them noticed. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a business I’ve worked with land its first feature, secure a game-changing partnership, or scale to the next level because of the proper positioning and exposure.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities have been critical in my journey: resilience, strategic thinking, and adaptability. Each played a major role in helping me build my businesses, navigate challenges, and create opportunities where others saw roadblocks.

Resilience: Entrepreneurship and PR are full of rejection. Whether it was hearing “no” from potential clients or having media pitches ignored, I had to keep going. Rejection isn’t failure; it’s just data. The key is learning from every setback, refining your approach, and returning stronger. For those early in their journey, I’d say embrace discomfort, expect obstacles, and train yourself to keep moving no matter what.

Strategic Thinking: Business success isn’t just about working hard; it’s about working smart. One of the most significant shifts in my career came when I started thinking like a strategist—anticipating trends, positioning myself for long-term growth, and making decisions based on leverage, not just effort. To develop this skill, I recommend studying market patterns, learning how to connect dots across industries, and always asking: “What’s the bigger picture here?”

Adaptability: I’ve had to evolve my offerings, update my strategies, and rethink my approach multiple times. A huge asset is the ability to stay curious, embrace innovation, and let go of what no longer works. For those starting, my advice is to keep learning, experiment often, and never get too attached to a single way of doing things. The businesses that thrive are the ones that evolve with the times while staying true to their core mission.

If you focus on strengthening these areas—resilience, strategy, and adaptability—you’ll build a foundation that can withstand any challenge and position you for long-term success.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client understands the value of visibility and is ready to invest in their brand’s growth—but they might not yet know how to make that happen. They’re driven, ambitious, and serious about building long-term brand equity, whether they’re founders, experts, or companies looking to establish themselves as industry leaders.

The best clients to work with are open to strategy, willing to take action, and committed to the process. PR and branding aren’t overnight fixes; they require consistency, positioning, and messaging. My most successful clients trust the process and are willing to be seen, whether that means stepping into media opportunities, refining their messaging, or making bold moves in their industry.

I work best with innovative, impact-driven entrepreneurs, executives, and brands looking to scale their visibility. Whether they’re launching a new product, rebranding, or breaking into a new market, I love working with clients who have a compelling story and are ready to own it.
