We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristin Rademacher. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristin below.
Kristin , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My commitment & dedication to my craft most definitely came from watching my father from as early as I can remember accomplish a great deal. Whether it was for the betterment of our family and home or for one of the many in our small town community, he taught me that commitment and hard work would yield exceptional results. My parents had 5 children on two public school teachers salaries — very little had to go a long way and putting in your best efforts for yourself contributed to the bigger picture for the family. Gene Rademacher worked his entire life educating in the public school system along w/ coaching high school sports, running his own business as an independent contractor/builder, and later in retirement he was publicly voted into office as the president of the public school board. Watching this man tackle all these roles has always inspired me to move forward, set goals and keep persevering despite intense challenges and hardships.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
1750 Salvage creates hand made apparel and bags – each individually unique as they are all made from previously used or discarded fabric. The most special thing about the product is really the process and journey we take as artists to reimagine these brand new pieces. We deconstruct old clothing and rework the material in a new and innovative way by applying new dye techniques or texture applications to the surface. It’s unbelievable how much material already exists in the world, basically trash, that can be re-used.
Our products shine in local markets and inside retail spaces. The next event we have is Arts Goggle on October 19th in Fort worth, put on by Near Southside.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful action we have taken so far in this creative journey is simply saying “yes” to ourselves and what we believe in, … sticking to what makes us feel happy and fulfilled. Not putting harsh boundaries during the creative process and giving ourselves time to make something we fully believe in. Not every single piece is a success but it’s simply more fuel for the process of living a creative life. It’s truly a revelation when you show up for yourself – and no one else. I think that’s where the magic really starts.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed the very best thing that releases the feeling is doing something for myself. I think once I stop obsessing and churning and come back to my center – the calm surely comes and the strategy reveals itself. Our busy lives, demanding jobs, the high expectations we put on ourselves can deplete you in an instant. We are force fed so many tactics through social media, friends, self help books, but really – listening to your gut – your internal energy and guiding force will reveal the next steps.
