We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristin Thegreat. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristin below.
Kristin, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care is a vital part of my everyday life. I became deeply rooted in my self-care journey after overcoming an intense battle with severe social anxiety.
With the help of an incredible therapist at that time, I was able to develop the tools I needed, as well as embrace the tools I already had to deal with stress and anxiety. For example, spending time in nature, meditation, writing in my journal, being creative, exercise, and doing things that I enjoy and love.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an artist, and my chosen medium is fashion and costume design. For me, the joy and excitement of my art come from it being enjoyed by others. I also deeply enjoy the process. At times, it can be difficult to stay focused in this very colorful and interesting world we live in. However, once I get started, there is nothing that can match the feeling of creativity in motion. It is truly something to be a part of that process while also being the cause of it.
Presently, I have been toiling away at a new collection, and I am preparing to open my design studio very soon! The aim is to create and give back to creatives in many facets and stages of life. This is my life’s work, and I’m excited to share more with the world when it’s time!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
So far, the three most impactful elements of my journey have been studying meditation with Thai Buddhist monks to learn Samadhi, a higher level of concentration in meditation. Through this practice, I learned the importance and power of focus.
Next, experiencing loss. Loss can break us, or it can fuel us. Knowing that change is inevitable, being able to navigate your way through loss can become your superpower.
Finally, I would say that my time working with Cirque du Soleil was one of the most life changing experiences. Working on such high-level productions with the best in the world forced me to level up quickly! It also taught me the importance of a team. Teamwork is essential for executing greatness.
Some advice for people who are early in their journey would be to focus, keep going, never give up, and learn the power of silence. When you listen, you learn. Be willing to grow, and you will surely get to places you never imagined. Most importantly, be kind and gracious.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Currently, I am focused on growth and expansion. I am looking for people who would like to know more about my journey, as well as people who are interested in investing in my brand and design studio. I am always interested in collaborations and working with other artists in diverse mediums. If this is you, please feel free to reach out via email or Instagram! I can’t wait to chat!
