Meet Kristine Willson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kristine Willson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kristine , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

I think generosity is at the heart of everything I do. Whether it’s giving my clients a little extra magic in their gallery, offering encouragement during a vulnerable shoot, or simply creating a space where people feel truly seen. A lot of it comes from how I was raised. I watched the people around me give without expecting anything in return, and that stuck with me. But honestly, it’s also just how I’m wired I believe. I genuinely want people to feel good, feel confident, and feel cared for. If someone walks away from a session feeling more empowered or valued than when they arrived, I’ve done my job.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a portrait photographer and the owner of Simply Willson Photography, where I specialize in creating empowering, intentional imagery. Whether it’s a bold portrait session, a tender couples shoot, or something more intimate like boudoir. What makes this work so special to me is the connection. I’m not just capturing pretty pictures. I’m creating space for people to be seen, celebrated, and sometimes even rediscovered. Watching someone light up with confidence during a session or get emotional over an image that makes them feel something …that’s the magic! That’s why I do this!

One of the most exciting things on the horizon is the launch of Simply Willson Acres, a new photography venue we’re officially opening in Spring 2026. It’s being designed as a safe, welcoming space for photographers and creatives to gather, create, and collaborate. I’ve always believed in community over competition, and this space will reflect that. Whether you’re renting it for a shoot, a workshop, or a small elopement. My hope is that it becomes a creative home base for people who want something intentional and inspiring.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Willingness to Learn . Whether it’s lighting, editing, posing, business, or mindset , there’s always something new to learn.Learning never stops. I’ve spent countless hours studying and experimenting, and I still learn with every session. For anyone new: invest in education/a mentor, be curious, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes. Growth comes from doing.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who’s kind, open-hearted, and ready to express themselves in front of the camera, even if they’re a little nervous at first. I don’t need people to show up perfectly posed or confident from the start. I just ask that they show up as themselves. The best sessions happen when there’s a willingness to be real, to have fun, and to trust the process.

I’m especially drawn to positive people. Those who radiate good energy or are at least open to receiving it. There’s already enough negativity in the world. My goal is to create an experience that feels uplifting and safe, where clients walk away not just with beautiful images, but with a deeper sense of self-love and empowerment.
