We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krystal Benson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krystal below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Krystal with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my mother. She has always been a strong, independent woman. Raising 2 kids alone isn’t easy and without a college degree back in 1991, it was only so much she could do, which in turn meant it was only so much she could make. Yet, we never went without! After being laid off from the bank in 2013, she decided to go back to school and get her associates and later finished with her undergraduate degree in Psychology.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Since birth, I’ve always had a creative eye with a keen attention to detail. I began sharing my gifts with the world in 2013 when I launched my blog as a creative outlet while working in Corporate America. In 2017, I moved to New York City to pursue a career in the fashion industry while simultaneously working as a micro-influencer and perfecting my content creation skills.
After being intentional with creating for others all 2019, I decided that I wanted to bet on myself, level up and create a legacy with the gifts that God has given me. After returning from an overseas work trip and being inspired to make my dreams a reality, I launched Clique Bait in March 2020! Little did I know, even with the pandemic, I’d be able to help over 40+ small businesses tell their story on social and IRL.
Now, I have a team of amazing women, with unique perspectives, who help me push the mission of helping brands tell their story on social media and IRL. Along with monthly social media content, we provide end to end marketing for brands during the launch phase of a new product/service.
Community is very important to me and it is one of the pillars Clique Bait is founded on. We recently hosted our first Content Camp in Houston, TX! Content Camp is an IRL experience for developing entrepreneurs and aspiring influencers to build confidence and community while learning how to tackle content like a pro! I’m excited to announce that we will be taking Content Camp on tour across 5 states! God is the catalyst for it all and I’m overjoyed because this is only the beginning!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that have been most impactful in my entrepreneurial journey thus far are learning to be intentional, taking risks but most importantly trusting the process. Each of these qualities have allowed me to hone in on my craft and truly carve out a lane for myself. At the same time. it’s allowed me to walk in my purpose and in turn been the biggest blessing.
For those who are in the early phases of their journey, I recommend that you sit with yourself and truly figure out your why. Pray, get centered and talk to God. Once you uncover your passion, you can walk in your purpose and those qualities will naturally develop.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a break from work and I do something creative that doesn’t require me to think. I hang out with friends, go to a museum, hit the gym or watch something that makes me laugh. Do what doesn’t feel like work to reset and start fresh.
