We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krystal Lambert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krystal below.
Hi Krystal, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?
When I was a toddler, my father affectionately would read to me every night before I’d go to sleep. Together, we’d travel miles away, to Pooh Corner in the Hundred Acre Wood. We’d witness the mayhem of the Cat in the Hat, and learn valuable life lessons from seeing Aesop’s famed characters fly off the pages – in addition to so many other classic tales … It was during those precious hours that I began to love storytelling, that the love grew into a gift, and that the gift blossomed into destiny.
As I grew older, it became rare to not see me with a pencil, a paintbrush or similar tool in my hand. For it was through art, writing and other forms of creative expression that I felt most alive. In fact, I can still close my eyes and take myself back to the simpler days of my childhood, when I would slip through my window and onto the rooftop of my family’s two-story log home. And with a graphite pencil in hand, I’d fill the pages of my sketchbook with drawings, concepts, poems and short-stories – anything that came from my vivid imagination.
It was very early in life that teachers began noticing my passion – pushing me as a writer, an artist, an actress, a public speaker – and they began encouraging me to get involved in extracurricular activities and contests to strengthen my talents. I’m very grateful to them all, for they laid the foundation upon which I was able to build a fulfilling career.
In college and work, I pursued communications and business. And through every course, every job that I took, my talents and skills became sharper and sharper. Today, I am fortunate to be recognized as an award-winning communicator – including honors such as the Dean’s Cup for Professional Promise and the Richard McGinnis Professional Promise Awards from the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications, and most recently, nominee for one of the Top 50 Women in Communications by Women We Admire. I’m humbled to have also reaped a highly rewarding career alongside these distinctions – from serving some of the top-level executives in major Fortune 500 companies like Disney, to leading marketing and communications for a production company that creates Hollywood film content, and more.
I have so many exceptional leaders, mentors, teachers and others to thank for helping me get to this point in my life, but before them all, I have my wonderful parents to thank – for giving me the gift, the love, of story.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’d be delighted to. These days, like so many entrepreneurs, I wear multiple hats. One is serving as vice president of Marketing & Communications for Divinity Pictures – a full-service film production company, which concentrates on creating Hollywood content through its in-house library of properties. In this capacity, I oversee all marketing and communication activities supporting the business, as well as during the pre-production stage of our films. Right now, we are working on an exciting psychological crime thriller called “The Lost Identity.” The film is gaining local, national and even international attention, and has already secured two potential distribution deals and letters of intent from well-known talents, including U.K. Actor Joseph Millson (“Casino Royale” and “The Last Kingdom”), Actor Jesse Kove (“Cobra Kai” and “Taste of Love”), son of Martin Kove and Glenn Tabor, multiple GRAMMY Award-winning music producer and audio engineer. So, definitely be on the lookout for this one!
Another hat I wear is being the owner of a marketing services business, which operates my freelance and coaching services, including Vocal Influence – my signature program. Vocal Influence is designed specifically for those who want to learn how to master speaking, as well as how to position and promote themselves effectively. Together, we go over both the fundamentals and advanced skills of these areas for various types of public speaking so clients are prepared for the ever-evolving modern “stage.”
The methods I teach come from 13 years of experience in working directly with some of the top-level executives in major Fortune 500 companies and other types of speakers, helping them prepare for, deliver and promote their talks and interviews. This experience is now a beautiful gift that I am able to give to those who dream of being better communicators.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For anyone who is seeking improvement in their communication skills – particularly their verbal communication skills – I’d say the three most crucial things they need to know are these …
One: become better readers.
Two: become better listeners.
And three: become better storytellers.
I once had a colleague with phenomenal experience in writing multiple novels and crafting speeches for the Ford Motor Company family and so many other impressively accomplished people … When others would ask him, “How do I become a better writer,” he would wisely reply, “Read, and read often.” I never forgot that sage advice. And it’s the absolute truth. Reading, particularly fiction, opens your mind to new ways of expressing yourself creatively, to the styles of gifted storytellers – and the tactics they use.
Adding to this, I would also include mastering your active listening skills because a key ingredient to the success of every great public speaker is being a sharp listener. In communication, one must first receive information and understand it before they can respond. So, for a speaker to respond to what the audience needs and wants to learn, they must first understand those needs and wants, and the only way to do this is by listening.
Lastly, of course, is the magical skill of storytelling. Few other skills can draw people in, quite as well as storytelling, and for centuries, it has persisted as a vital part of communication. So, studying the craft is essential.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My signature program, Vocal Influence, is designed for entrepreneurs, corporate leaders and rising public figures who want to improve their speaking skills – on stage, on camera, in interviews, etc. – and need help positioning and promoting themselves in today’s digital environment. Right now, my clients come from various backgrounds, including real estate, photography, acting, film, and pageantry and philanthropy – which provides a strong diversity of perspectives that contribute positively to client learning and development. I would be honored to help anyone reading this who says, “Yep, that sounds like me!”
