Meet Krystel Tinker

We recently connected with Krystel Tinker and have shared our conversation below.

Krystel, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My parents always worked hard to provide an amazing childhood for not only me and my siblings, but other children that they fostered. My mother was an in home nurse and also did hair on the side. She always made it happen.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a third generation hairstylist, officially turned business owner. My plan after graduating high-school was to get my Cosmetology license, work in a salon while going to college for Early Childhood Education. Fast forward 22 years later I’m still in the beauty industry and I love it! Yes it has it’s ups and downs like anything in life. I love connecting with my clients who become more like family. To experience the emotions of someone feeling so good after you have tranformed their look,is indescribable. I absolutely love doing color, it’s my top passion, but I do offer other services as well(haircuts, extensions, silk presses, and blowouts).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Professionalism, Punctuality, and Compassion.

Remember why you started and always go back there. I am always reminding myself that none of my clients HAVE to sit in my chair and spend their money with me. Relationships require work, even the ones with my clients. Time is important, respect other people’s time and don’t let them disrespect yours. Everyone is going through things in life, have a little compassion…we could all use some right now.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

As a business owner and stylist life can become overwhelming when you wear multiple hats and titles. When I feel that sense of heaviness, I pray, workout, and work on my breathing. I have to remind myself that I’m only 1 person and I don5 have to be perfect, just keep moving and don’t let my emotions get the best of me.
