We were lucky to catch up with Ksenia Zaytseva recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ksenia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I firmly believe it’s rooted in passion. When you’re deeply passionate about what you do, a strong work ethic naturally follows. I love this saying: where there is a will, there is a way.
And the biggest example for me is my business partner whose work ethics will forever be unmatched.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Bur Bur is our baby, born out of a need for genuinely clean hair care products in the market. We use only natural ingredients, sustainably sourced and burdock plant being the star because of its awesome hair growth properties. It’s actually a tribute to my grandmother’s DIY burdock treatments, which inspired our whole line. So, in a way, starting this brand is also how we keep her legacy alive. It feels like we’re giving her traditions and spirit a new life.
Plans to expand?
We’ve just introduced worldwide shipping, which is exciting. There are some really amazing developments on the horizon. We’re currently working on a natural eyelash growth serum, as well as a line of shampoos and conditioners. We’re super excited about these upcoming products!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’d say perseverance, a positive attitude, and belief in yourself are the top three qualities to develop. Starting a business without any funding is incredibly challenging, but having solid support from friends and family and forming an incredible partnership is a game changer. The synergy I have with my partner is just amazing. Without her, this business wouldn’t even be a thing.
There’s no easy way to say it: the journey is tough, but getting through those tough times is what makes the success so sweet. It’s a lot like life in general, no matter how many times you might get knocked down, the important thing is that you keep getting back up and pushing forward.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Listening closely to the insights of fellow entrepreneurs and the feedback from your customers can make a world of difference. There’s this wise bit of advice I got from a really smart person once: ‘slow and steady often wins the race.’ Sometimes, taking the time to ensure things are done correctly is exactly what’s needed to succeed.
