Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kurt M. Boyd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kurt, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
For me, I can’t have success unless my clients have success first. With that, an incredible amount of generosity must be given at all times, and a willingness to help in anyway I can. Respect to clients, other agents, title companies, photographers, bankers, advertisers, stagers, all facets of the business and the relationships must be maintained. Thank you note cards are a must, I send them out all the time. The little things mean everything.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I was brought into the business in 1999 by my Mom who was already a successful agent in her own right. I had been a jeweler setting diamonds for a living at the time and that kind of work can be very hard on your eyes, writs and back, and for me, it was not sustainable. My integrity, positivity, energy, honesty, strong work ethic and steadfast communication are all facets of what I carry with me to this day in the real estate business. I’m focused on helping families succeed with their home buying/selling before anything else.
I put my heart and soul into everything I do and it’s all done with focus, tenacity and hard work.
As a Scottsdale/Phoenix resident over 20 years, I have so much value to offer every family looking to make a move in and around the Valley of the Sun. Whether it’s a sale, purchase, vacation home, forever home, I’ve always been able to get clients right through the process with ease and it’s enjoyable!
Nothing satisfies me more than seeing the smiles that come with a successful sale, and the relationships I build with my clients/friends along the way.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Stay true to yourself, treat everyone with respect and be helpful in all situations. Find one “coach” or mentor that you really admire that is giving of themselves and stop buying into all these so-called gurus who pull you in 15 different directions. Stay away from manipulative “sales tactics” and just be helpful. People can spot a fake immediately.
Being brought up in the Midwest, I carry many of those “down home/small town” traits with me. It means alot to offer personal care at a Ritz-Carlton level no matter who you are and my reach is global.
Not only should you treat others the way you would like to be treated but you should really pay close attention to how THEY prefer to be treated so you don’t overshoot the mark. You need to be exactly how they want you to be. Pay attention to their issues, help solve their problems and facilitate their requests quickly and accurately. That has always worked for me.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
This can be a reoccurring theme. Many people and coaches suggest time blocking. I’ve not yet been able to accomplish that is a practical application as the client’s needs come first and as an active agent, busy, you never know when something will pop up. I typically delegate as many tasks as a I can to others so I can be at my best and (hopefully) avoid long stretches of stressful periods. When it does get a little “too much” I’ll check into a luxury resort, turn off the phone and just relax in their amenities for a few hours and get a good night’s sleep. You have to have time to reflect and re-energize your thoughts or not many new ideas are allowed to flourish. I keep notes, ideas, scratch pads, all over the place and I implement the important things first, but review once a month to gauge progress or toss out ideas that might not have been so great after all or perhaps another, better idea has taken its place. It’s important to stay inspired. Keep it as simple as you can and realize you will not conquer everything at the exact moment you want to. Be spiritual and let things go that are not in your control. Do the best thing for you and keep as organized as you can, know your limitations and don’t take too much on, that will burn you out. Stay positive and focused and when that is slipping away, pause for yourself for even just a day and you will naturally fall back into place. Sounds simple right? It’s a challenge for all of us, don’t worry, you’re ok putting one foot in front of the other.
