Meet Kushal Shah

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kushal Shah. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kushal, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism is deeply rooted in the unwavering support of my parents, the guidance from God, and the belief that my loved ones have in me. I feel a strong sense of purpose and responsibility, and I’ve made promises to myself that I am dedicated to fulfilling. This combination of influences is the backbone of my positive outlook on life and motivates me to strive for my goals with discipline and determination no matter the challenges that come my way.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At my core, I am a storyteller, and filmmaking is my chosen medium for sharing those stories. My primary roles are directing, cinematography, and producing, but I’ve embraced every aspect of production, from sound to lighting to grip. I began my journey by creating short films, which eventually led me to make spec commercials for luxury brands. Recently, I’ve expanded my horizons by filming and producing impactful documentaries.

One of the most exciting things about filmmaking is that if you have ever been on a set, it feels like a living entity, with each department functioning like organs that work together in to bring a project to life. My first time on a set made it clear that this was what I was meant to do for the rest of my life. Working on sets, I also saw myself as a problem solver, which led me to producing. Being able to direct and produce allows me to balance my creative and managerial sides perfectly. Every project I undertake is an opportunity to connect with audiences and evoke emotions through the art of storytelling.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that had the most impact on my journey were adaptability, discipline, and a love of learning. In the ever-evolving world, it’s crucial to stay updated and continuously learn new things. Adaptability helped me overcome challenges, especially when things didn’t go as planned. Having a solid Plan B often determines the outcome of most things in life. Discipline is key; it allows us to focus on what truly matters, avoid distractions, and improve overall efficiency. These qualities are valuable for anyone on their journey, regardless of the path they’re on.

For those starting out, my two cents would be to nurture these qualities. Stay curious, be adaptable, maintain discipline, and never stop learning. Embracing these traits will not only enhance your filmmaking journey but also benefit you in all aspects of life.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

First of all, I’d like to say that I am blessed to have my parents. I can never, with all the time in the world, convey how thankful I am for them and how much I love them. The most impactful thing they did for me was helping evolve my relationship with them as I grew up. They always knew when to be my parents, when to be my teachers, and when to be my friends. Their ability to switch roles so seamlessly made me feel supported and understood at every stage of my life. Whether I was facing a tough decision, struggling with school, or just needed someone to talk to, they were always there. Their presence made everything seem more manageable, and growing up felt effortless due to their unwavering support and understanding. I owe so much of my happiness to their love and guidance, and I will always be grateful for the incredible bond we share.
