Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kween Sankofa-Bey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kween, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my mom. My mom is my shero! She is a strong, powerful, ambitious, resilient, unapologetically loud proud bold Melanated fierce Queen! I watched her struggle, hustle and strive for excellence. She is a fighter and all things BOSS!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Kween and I am an untamed creative spirit with a passion for creating unique hand painted designs that showcase my love for my melanin and ancestral lineage.

My hand painted apparel is special because I am inspired by my Ancestors, my Ancestral lineage and my culture and I incorporate designs that embody these particular elements.

My Kweens Royal Tees, Kween Soles and Virginia’s Bags brands are all created with my people in mind. I love uplifting my CommU.N.I.T.Y with empowering words, powerful images and Ancient Khemetic symbols that help remind my people of their MELANIN SKIN, strength, courage, power, resilience and royal lineage!

I am so excited to continue expanding my brand by adding hand crafted Italian leather sneakers Kween Soles and my Italian leather purses and handbags bags created to honor my Ancestor Aunt Gin, Virginia’s Bags!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One quality that I feel has been most impactful on my journey is having confidence in myself. What I have noticed along my journey is that society will try and tell you what you can’t do and you have to be so confident in yourself that you are able to quiet the outside noise and just focus on yourself and your goals.

Another quality that I feel has been most impactful on my journey is having patience. We currently live in a world where everything can be accessed so fast and along our journey of success or chasing our dreams we may fill things should happen faster than they are. Having patience in my goals and the timing of my success has allowed me to progress in Divine timing.

And lastly an area of knowledge that I know has impacted my journey in such a Divine way is being connected with my Ancestors. Realizing their power, guidance, protection, love and wisdom over my life has helped me navigate my journey with ease. I am grateful to know the true power of honoring my Ancestors and interfacing with them daily.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing that my mom has done for me is being my biggest supporter! She not only wears my brand but always promotes, talks about and praises my brand! My mom uplifts me and pushes me to continue elevating on my fashion journey!! I am grateful for her and all her support!!
