We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kyle Glenn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kyle below.
Kyle, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I think my purpose has changed a couple of times throughout my life. I believe from the earliest of ages, I felt that being a performer was my purpose- I used to stand in front of the tv watching MTV and VH1, imitating Michael Jackson, Jim Carrey, Kurt Cobain, Fred Durst, Chris Farley and so many more musicians and actors. At the same time, my physical ability and athleticism was clearly a major blessing which my father fostered, as a major athlete himself, and my massive passion for basketball and football. Low and behold, in high school, college, and for three years out of college, I played professional volleyball.
All of that being said, I currently find my purpose as an artist and entertainer, within myself and the things that I feel a great gratitude for- especially my parents and my family.
My purpose in life, outside of the physical and materialistic, is to help, inspire, and to guide people. I’ve always been connected to the earth, to spirituality, and to those who are not fortunate enough to control themselves or their circumstances. Helping and aiding, as a human being, is certainly at the core of my life’s purpose.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Currently I am heavily focused on my podcasts- “One Too Many with Kyle Glenn” and “Learning Things with Kyle and Phil.” Both podcasts can be found on YouTube, Apple, and Spotify.
I’ve been really diving deep into the world of YouTube and love how you can have your own platform for serious work like this- I believe YouTube is a very special place.
In addition to that, the year has just kicked off and my acting work will be getting into full-swing.
I am currently modeling as well, though that is sporadic.
Lastly, I am starting to work on a small album with Thomas Mester, here in NYC. I’ve been singing live in tribute shows for the past three years and have finally started making steps to create my own music. My mother was a singer and musician for many years, and as aforementioned, I grew up idolizing several frontmen.
I AM LOOKING FOR PRODUCERS AND ANGEL INVESTORS FOR MY PODCAST “One Too Many” if you or your affiliates are interested in producing a YouTube show. Additionally, I have already shot a pilot for the television show and am currently in post-production.
LASTLY, I am continuously working on my craft as a professional photographer. You can find my work at www.bkgphotographynyc.com
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think one of the most important qualities I’ve been fortunate to have, is just being a good person. The world is cold. The world is ugly…. especially the entertainment industry. Staying grounded, keeping myself and other honest and accountable, and treating others with the love and respect that I want to be treated with, is priceless.
I’ve been able to form many friendships and business acquaintances through simply being a good human.
Studying, researching, and building my knowledge around technology (cameras, editing software, YouTube, Photoshop, etc.) is one of the greatest areas of knowledge that I’ve been able to learn about. Technology is ever-growing and constantly evolving- being able to have the skills to produce something on your own is one of the most valuable skills you can have.
Investing in yourself, investing in technology, and investing in courses to grow your skillsets are some of the most valuable things you can do for yourself early on in your journey. Nobody can take these things away from you- you become a commodity and can provide a service. From there you can build business.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The number one obstacle right now for me is scaling.
I’m currently learning from mentors whom I am fortunate enough to have come into contact with, but it’s been a very long journey to find someone like this… Start manifesting them now to come into your life.
Money, scaling, and building true business has been the biggest obstacle, as I do not come from money, or have a family that has their own business or any serious business-related work. Without those two things, or going to college for business, you are really left in the dark, so I am taking the steps now to learn how to build a foundation, scale, and to keep expanding business.
Also, releasing my blockage and being vulnerable to ASK FOR HELP.
People don’t know you’re struggling or even need help financially or physically or mentally, unless you reach out and you ask for help. There shouldn’t be any shame or pride in this process, but there is plenty for sure.
I’m currently asking myself to step forward and telling myself that it’s okay to be asking for help- no matter what it is.
