We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kyle Mathis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kyle, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I had an academic coach for a couple of semesters who taught me the importance of being confident, not cocky. Drawing healthy boundaries and refining my communication skills were crucial in developing my self-esteem. I also immersed myself in a passion project to grow relevant skillsets and develop self-awareness.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that were most impactful on my journey are resilience, my communication skills, and my passion for never-ending self-improvement.
The advice I have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can improve on these skills is to develop an entrepreneurial mindset (meaning work hard), develop a growth mindset, and maintain positive and healthy thinking patterns. Educators need to instill these skills in their students early on so that they can grow their careers with resilience.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents did me a huge favor by letting me hit rock bottom and holding me accountable to my employer and influencer community. Accountability and ownership strengthened my resolve as a professional. I also needed to put space between myself and my family for a while so that I could focus on my schoolwork, my job, and my passion project. Keeping a healthy distance from my family so that I could focus on my work was necessary for my growth.
