Meet Kyle Mendes

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kyle Mendes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kyle, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

We’ve always felt that our purpose was clear pursuing music in all its forms: writing, performing, producing. But after going through the motions time and again, we’ve come to realize that our purpose is shifting. It’s no longer just about creating and performing for the sake of it. Now, it’s about forging a deeper connection with our audience. We like to think of it as waiting tables, providing a musical service. It’s about offering something that people can resonate with, something that feels personal and meaningful. It’s less about us and more about the experience we can share with others through our music.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Over the past 3 to 4 months, we’ve seen more growth than in the previous 10+ years of recording and performing as NITE. Our journey began with a deep passion for music writing, producing, and performing in ways that resonate with our own experiences, and hopefully, with those of our listeners. What’s exciting for us right now is the energy we’ve been able to tap into with our audience. After some older posts went viral and our song “All Your Pain” was featured on a Spotify playlist, it really gave us the momentum we needed to expand our reach.

What’s special about NITE is that we’ve never stopped evolving. Every release, every performance, feels like a chance to grow and connect more deeply with our listeners. The connection we have with our fans is what drives us. In the coming months, we’re focused on releasing more singles like our upcoming track, “Oblivion (My Obsession).” Plus, we’re excited to announce our tour with Ollie Wride and Panzer AG (Combichrist), which is a huge step forward for us.

We’re constantly looking to push boundaries, share our art, and provide an experience for our listeners that feels meaningful. It’s about more than just music it’s about creating a space for reflection, connection, and energy that leaves an impact. You can find more information on our upcoming releases and tour dates on our website, WeAreTheNite.com.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As far as producing better music, making live shows more meaningful, and creating impactful content the key is to always focus on intent. When it comes to production, make sure your music aligns with your vision and connects emotionally. Focus on authenticity. In live shows, it’s not just about playing your tracks it’s about creating a shared experience with your audience. Think about what energy you want to bring to the stage and how you want to engage people on a deeper level.

For content, don’t just put stuff out to stay relevant ask yourself, How can I create something that’s genuinely valuable to my audience? Whether it’s behind-the-scenes moments, storytelling, or giving fans a glimpse into your creative process, aim for content that invites people into your world and makes them feel part of the journey.

Ultimately, it’s about service serving your audience with honesty, music that resonates, and experiences that leave a lasting impression. Never stop learning, experimenting, and thinking about how you can offer more to the people who support you.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

A big part of our growth and development has come from the incredible bands we’ve had the opportunity to tour with. Specifically, bands like Dead on a Sunday, Empathy Test, The New Division, and Small Black have been hugely impactful. Watching how they operate not just musically, but in how they connect with their audience has been a game-changer for us. It’s about more than just playing the music; it’s the whole experience. Whether it’s the energy they bring on stage or how they engage with fans at the merch table, we’ve learned a lot from them. The way they make people feel seen and heard, both during the show and afterward, has really influenced how we approach our connection with our own fans. We’ve taken notes on how they build relationships with their audience and create a more personal, memorable experience. These experiences have been invaluable in shaping how we approach not only our music but also our relationship with the people who support us.
