We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kyle Sigmon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kyle below.
Kyle , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
This is such an interesting question. Do we have just one purpose? Does purpose presuppose that our value is measured by the outcomes of our productivity? Eckhart Tolle makes the claim that our purpose is whatever we are doing right here, right now. So right now, my purpose is answering this question. What is my purpose as a musician? Well, it is to make music. As a person, it is to experience what it means to be human. I hope I can integrate what it means to be human into my music and I hope I can do something with my life that brings positivity to others. I guess my main purpose is to be fully alive. Music is part of how I am living out that purpose. Did that answer the question?
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Seeking Gravity is a 4 piece rock band from North Carolina that comes out of the alternative/post-grunge pop punk genre from the early 2000s. The band started as a 90s cover band called Squirrel Jam. When Covid-19 shut down live music, the band turned to music as a creative outlet. Our first album that came out in 2022 deals with the big questions of how do we change and grow and how do we go through adversity in a way that makes us stronger rather than destroying us. We have released 3 new singles since our debut album and are currently working on finishing up the second album, which is a slightly heavier sound and deals with issues relating to becoming more personally and socially conscious. We are currently booking. Follow us on Insta at seekinggravityband and check out all the things at linktree.com/seekinggravity
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I am going to go ahead and say that despite our modern secularization, having some sort of spiritual practice has been the best thing for me with my mental health and stirring creativity. Without sounding like your doctor, I also have found diet and exercise to be super important in feeling your best, which affects everything about your life. Finally, being good friends with my band mates has been the most important thing for the future of the band. Who wants to make it big with a bunch of people you don’t really want to hang out with? The relationships we have fuels the project even more because it’s like we get to do this thing together!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking for other artists to link up with and play shows together, or just other creative people who might want to collaborate on a music video or something cool like that.
