Meet Kylee McGee

We recently connected with Kylee McGee and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kylee, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Growing up, I have always had great role models in my life. My dad was super involved in the sports that we played and he taught me most everything I know. Most of all, he taught me that with a lot of hard work and practice I can accomplish anything I put my heart into.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started Best Bite Cookie Co. in 2021 after years of baking for fun. I was interested in pursuing my creative dreams along side my full time job, however, it quickly grew into a passion and fulfilling side career. Best Bite Cookie Co. offers a range of sugar cookie flavors and customizes them to the clients needs. I create custom sugar cookies for all types of events including, bachelorette parties, bridal showers, weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and corporate events. Pretty much anything that the client thinks of I can create it! Although, I create cookies for all types of events, the theme that has my heart is bachelorette events! They are just so much fun to create, and I know it adds that extra bit of happiness to the brides event.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three skills that have had the most impact in where I’m at now is patience, perseverance, and project management.

Learning how to decorate cookies, you first need to have patience. It’s a very difficult learning curve and it takes a lot of patience to make them. Some cookie sets can take 8-10 hours to create, if you aren’t patient it could b quite challenging to perfect your work.

Along side patience is perseverance. You have to have perseverance to keep going after a design didn’t work out in your favor or that new recipe didn’t taste like it should. Designing and baking sugar cookies is a skill that grows with a ton of practice! No one is great at when the first start, you just have to keep going!

That last skill that has help me grow Best Bite is project management. This is less about creating the cookies and more about staying organized and marketing your product. This is a skill I’m constantly working on. In the beginning, I had no clue where to start and how to stay organized with orders. It took a lot of reaching out to others in the industry and asking for help to get me where I am. Now, I am a lot more organized and have a great system in place to be successful, but I’m still trying to brainstorm new ways that will help me stay on top of my orders!

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to teach me not to quit, unless I exhausted all my options. This taught me that when things get hard, I can’t just give up. Instead I need to learn more or keep practicing so that it’s not a daunting task anymore.
If I gave it 110% and I still did not like it, they also told me it’s okay to quit because I truly tried and sometimes things may not be right for you.
This mentality really helped me in all my past careers and hobbies.
