We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kym Nicole Oubre a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kym Nicole, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence wasn’t something I was born with, it was something I had to build. I grew up second guessing myself a lot. I didn’t always feel beautiful and definitely didn’t feel seen. I didn’t think I was beautiful, and I struggled with believing I was enough. I found power in expression–first through makeup, then through building my self-worth. Makeup became my mirror, not just for my face but for how I wanted to feel: bold, worthy, and enough. It was my tool for transformation. It allowed me to create a version of myself I wanted to believe in, and slowly, I did. Thats where my confidence started to shift from the outside in and then from the inside out.
That personal journey is what shaped everything I do now. Whether I’m doing makeup for TV and film, teaching women how to apply makeup with confidence, or writing about self-worth; I’m always centered in one thing: transformation with intention.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a professional makeup artist, educator, author, confidence coach, and owner of The Glam Precinct. At my core, I consider myself a transformational artist. I use makeup and affirming words to help women see themselves differently, more clearly, more confidently, more powerfully. What I do spans beauty services, education, and storytelling. What I’m really doing is helping women remember who they are.
What’s most exciting to me is the moment someone lights up when they look into the mirror and don’t just see a pretty face, but they feel that shift inside–that inner ‘I am her’ moment. That’s why I do this. Whether it’s talent on set, a student in one of my courses, or a reader going through one of my books, it’s all about helping them step into their own magic.
My brand, The Glam Precinct, exists to help everyday women feel extraordinary. It’s not just lashes and palettes– it’s about giving women tools to express who they truly are. I want them to feel seen, empowered, and in control of their narrative. That’s what inspired my first book, A Little Makeup Can’t Hurt. It was my confidence building book, born from my own journey of using makeup to shift how I saw myself. It speaks to that initial stage where you’re learning to show up, even if you’re still shaky inside. I wanted to give women permission to feel beautiful without apology, and to see confidence as something they could create, not just wish for.
As I evolved, so did my message–and that’s where my latest book, The Power of Self-Worth comes in. This one goes deeper. It’s not just about how we present ourselves, but how we heal, how we set boundaries, how we honor our truth. It’s affirmations for young women who are ready to stop shrinking and start living from a place of wholeness. Together, both books reflect the full journey from putting yourself together, to finally knowing you were never broken in the first place.
Both books can be found on Amazon or my website.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities on my journey have been, resilience, emotional awareness, and vision. Resilience kept me going when things got hard personally and professionally. Emotional awareness helped me understand myself, connect with others, and tell deeper stories–whether through makeup, writing or conversation. I had to learn to navigate my inner world so I could thrive in the outer world. With vision, I’ve always been able to see something greater, even when it wasn’t in front of me yet. Whether it was launching The Glam Precinct, writing my first book, or building my beauty career, I led with a clear picture of the impact I wanted to have. That ability to dream with direction is what carried me here.
The best advice I can give is this: give yourself grace and time. None of these qualities show up fully formed. You develop them by living and being willing to start, even if it’s messy. To build resilience, you have to be okay with things not going perfectly . Learn to bounce back without beating yourself up. For emotional awareness, get comfortable with your emotions. Reflect often, Journal. Pause before reacting. The more you understand yourself, the more power you have over how you move through the world and how you connect with others. With vision…. start by being honest about what you want. Protect your dreams. Don’t shrink them to make other people comfortable. Get around people who expand your thinking and remind you whats possible.
Everything great you build starts inside, so focus on becoming before forcing outcomes. When you grow, your vision, your confidence, and your brand will grow with you.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is a young woman or woman who is ready to show up for herself. Whether she’s brand new to makeup or rediscovering her confidence. Someone who wants to feel beautiful but wants to been seen by herself first. She’s open-minded, coachable, and willing to unlearn those limiting beliefs she’s been told about her beauty and worth. She values growth, she’s curious, and she understands that glam isn’t just about appearance–it’s a form of self expression and self celebration. When she gets it, when it finally clicks– that’s where the real transformation begins and that’s where I do my best work.
