Meet Kymbra Li

We were lucky to catch up with Kymbra Li recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kymbra , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

I have a special place in my community because I can successfully navigate many different cultures. I’m also a white female rapper, which means I’m a guest in hip hop and if I’m allowed to operate within this sphere, it is my duty to give back to the community who gave us so much culture with amazing music. The universe blessed me with a huge platform, and I know it wasn’t just a reward for me- but instead, it was a way for me to show my city that we can all work together towards a common goal and there’s no longer one piece of pie that everyone needs to fight over. With social media, we all have our own ovens, and we can bake pies all day long and help feed the entire community. My generosity comes from having an abundance mindset. One person’s success doesn’t affect mine, so why wouldn’t I want to help them succeed? I recognize the privileged life I’ve been lucky enough to live and I use my privilege to bust down doors so that other people who may not look like me will have more and more opportunities- and that is what I was put on this planet to do.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

This is my 9th year in entertainment. Last year, my web series Uber Risk, a parody of a crazy Uber driver, took off and garnered over 30 million views. From here, I’ve branched off into creating The Risky Series- several different projects that dive into the local food culture, music and comedy scenes, dating and even adventures in foreign countries. I’ve built my platform from scratch and in about a year amassed over 200,000 followers. Whats next for me is developing a product line (it’s a secret so can’t say much about it yet), creating a legal foundation to help artists fight cases and one day I will own my own production studio. But for now, you can check out my latest parody Only Hands, a spoof of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 , and it’s available on YouTube or Kymbrali.com

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Belief- this is the number one thing that sets you apart from the average person. You must actually believe that you can do this and this belief must be unwavering.

Consistency- most people don’t lack knowledge, they simply lack execution. If you consistently work at something over the course of time, you’ll eventually succeed.

Be Delusional- many creatives following their dreams will often be labeled ‘crazy’ – I take this as a compliment! You darned right in crazy! Crazy enough to follow my passions and not give into what society expects of me! Only the delusional ones make it to the top.

My advice is to simply outwork everyone around you. Talent is no longer a necessity in this business. Outwork. Outperform. Outlast.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m looking to build my team. I need creators who know way more than me, graphics people, photographers and videographers, producers, sound engineers, a publicist, an agent and any other person who is capable of taking my brand to the next level. You can email [email protected] if you think you’re a good fit.
